The stock tires on the Prime’s 15” wheels are 195/65R15 with a width of about 7.7”. Switching to a 17” rim with a 225/45R17 tire would have a width of 8.9”. Can the Prime safely handle that?
This has been covered in a few other threads... The 225 tire is 30mm wider than the 195 tire. BUT, it's not just the tire but the tire and rim combination that must fit on the vehicle. A quick search shows that the prime can handle between a 33mm and 53mm offset wheel so if you choose a 43mm offset wheel, you will have at least that 10mm of margin on each side. With the above tire perfectly centered with a 43mm offset rim, you've still exceeded that margin by 5mm on each side. Will it still work. I think others in this forum have successfully used this wheel size. Are you outside of speced tolerances? Yes If you try it, make sure you also pair them with a rim that will center your tire in that very minimal space you have left. A 205/50/17 would be another combination that would be less risky on width and still get you into a 17" rim. Also, report back on the impact to EV range and MPG...
