You don't need $3400. You need about $1600 plus tax (after the core charge) to get a new one from Toyota and you can install it yourself, although that will shorten the warranty. Another option is a near new used one like I did. I installed a battery that had all the cells transplanted from a 2015 into my wife's '07. Toyota's new lower prices should have driven down the price of used ones by now.

Getting a rebuilt one virtually never turns out well.

There are exact procedures in Priuschat. Under 2005- 2008 Prii should still apply to your model. Look for a grease fitting, which it is not, difference there’s a hole in the end. Loosen with wrench, a bit, only fluid should come out.
If air comes out, leave it open until fluid comes out. It’s neater if you use a plastic tube for the fluid to return to either the inverter coolant jar//// or the radiator. Depending on which system you are doing. Look up Patrick Wong and all of his maintenace tips. These are all pertaining to earlier years, but the newer cars are basically the same

i feel confident that ill get a nice discount. the car wasnt purchased there but it has had most of the work done there and I've paid every little tic and tac fee they could think of. ex:they quoted me 134.99 to flush the inverter fluid. then charged me 140.00 with with a final number of 180.00. that was only the last visit before today. the car was paid off and handed down after a death in the family. way out of our budget to maintain and now repair. so I'm going to hope this reasoning and all my saved service records sway this person in my favor

what did that cost? green bean guy is stopping at that place in Tampa to get my order filled. I'm just gonna roll with it. I'm a land surveyor. not a mechanical or an electrical engineer. although I feel confident i would be able to swap a nugget battery myself (with the help of this forum.lol).... i honestly don't feel like it on top of not having the means to do it. already missing a day of work due to this issue. green bean is saving my nice person. it just the logical thing to do in my situation. you better believe if I was aware of a prius place like that around west palm beach id be all over it. you and this site have helped me let this wave pass.lol thank you

You'd have to call Todd on Monday at Home - Tampa Hybrids Inc. and get his current price. I got mine before Toyota lowered their price. But he saved me several hundred dollars. Problem is that he doesn't ship and it's a bit of a long drive over here from West Palm. However, if you brought your old battery, he could check it for you and if you buy a used one from him, just leave the old one and there's no core charge. It won't cost you anything to ask.

But if you can get help from Toyota, a new battery would be sweet. And if if it was me and I was thinking of selling it, I'd sleep a lot better knowing I hadn't knowingly sold a ticking wallet buster bomb. So I couldn't live with the Greenbean/Dorman/Etc option.

I just had a refurbished battery from, Hybrid Battery Doctor.com, no problems, intall at your home, they have, $800, installed, with six month warranty, and additional rated for additional warranties, I had added 2 year added warranty, $1350. No problems, two guys intalled, about and hour, and good to go.
