My wife and I just purchased a new Prius Prime over the weekend. We opted for the extended warranty but we were never told that it was not directly from Toyota but from a 3rd party called MPP(Mechanical Protection Plan) Should we go back in and have them change it to Toyota's extended warranty. thanks in advance.
congrats and welcome! how much did it cost? i would probably cancel it altogether. these cars have great factory warranties, and are pretty bullet proof. all the best!
We ended up cancelling it but they were making a hard push on trying to have us keep the warranty. At that point my wife was tired of them trying to sale us on it and she said to just cancel.
From my understanding it's a regional thing. When we lived in Pa. and got a warranty from Troy it was a Toyota warranty, but when we moved to Fl. The Toyota warranty is indeed from a 3rd party even though it says Toyota. But it really doesn't matter since all Toyota dealers take whatever warranty you have no problem. Toyota does a lot of things on a regional basis it seems.
The main reason why the extended warranty is being pushed is because it's pure profit due to Toyota's reliability. Therefore, there's a nice commission to be paid to the salesman/finance guy that sold it. Assuming that you financed the car and the warranty....please update us if you get an actual refund and your payments are decreased.
We had them apply it as credit to our financing because we purchases the car 3 hours away from where we live and didnt want to make the drive back to redo our contract. We're ok with the monthly payment amount and we have 0% apr for 72 months.
