I should add this. I haven't changed any of the batteries since I bought the car. I'm the original owner of the car. The most recent work done on the car was due to my head gaskets being blown. See list of work and parts done. Does it look like the inverter pump was changed. He said the reason my head gaskets were gone were because it was possibly overheating.

    welcome!
i would suggest more gas. if that doesn't work, check the 12v health. if that isn't it, disconnect the 12v negative for a few minutes. if that doesn't do it, tow it to a dealer.
    all the best!(y)

Your inverter pump might have failed already. Check the AM2 fuse. If its bad, replace it. The READY light should come on.

Have you checked if you have enough fuel in the car?

Check the voltage on your 12V battery, if it is within spec. If its not, the car would never start.

Can you get the car scanned pls?

If all the suggestions here don't solve your problem, I suggest you ask your question in a Gen 3 forum, as the people over there will have better advice. This a forum for Gen 2 Prius.

You nailed it! It was the 12v battery. The voltage meter read 9.2v. Cost: $250 installed (mechanic friend who lives 100 miles away from me). He had a code scanner but still had a hard time figuring it out. He resorted to taking his Prius battery out and putting it in mine. When he did that, the car started. I don't know if he tested the battery for it's voltage after he took it out or before. Will ask him. Thanks for your input. He said I was lucky it wasn't the inverter. My question is, why the heck doesn't the error lights just say battery and instead a whole slew of other error lights! Same with the oil, now that it has 170,000, it burns oil. One time I checked it, there was no oil on the stick!!! Needless to say, now I check it every week. Anyway, thank you.

I had checked the AM2 fuse before sending it to the mechanic. It was good. And yes, it was the 12v battery.

I had not idea I was in the Gen 2 forum. Oops. Thank you. I'll definitely remember that for next time. The problem was the 12v battery. Phew!

Glad it was a simple fix! Those are the best kind. ;)

That's because, when the battery gets low, the computer gets stupid. It's like when a hypoglycemic person's blood sugar crashes so hard they can't figure out why they can't think straight. Happened once to my wife. Scary! And the thing is, when the car is on, the charging system is feeding roughly 14 volts to the 12V battery, which masks any symptoms. When it's off, the car doesn't know much of anything. Catch 22.

I guess there are some fancy cars that have oil level switches. But they are just pass-fail and don't tell you how soon your oil will be too low. It's the driver's job to check the oil regularly. Since neither of mine are burners, I only do it every few weeks.

Ibbetvif I could design some kind of resistor LED device to be stuck on a section of the valve train, that would indicate if the oil is extremely low.

Sub Code Question: I have a basic code reader OBDII. No codes are showing. Where might I get a Sub Code reader or is this a dealer-only device?

My Prius will start periodically with a disconnect and re-connect of the (new) 12V battery and a lucky futz with booting from one push power (accessory mode), hold Info button, three or four head light on offs). This use to work consistently to get the "Ready" light and run as normal. I thought this was consistent with the dash cluster failure. Changed that cluster out and still have the problem. Any ideas?

Get a tech stream software installed on a laptop. That would help you access all the codes, including the sub's.
What's the state of the 12C battery you got there?
    Has it being replaced before?
What's the mileage on your Prius?
    Answering those questions, would help.

l have similar problem with my prius 05. 3 months ago, after replacing 12v battery one day Red triangle lit, thinking its gas about to run out rushed to station and topped 5 liters continued driving and parked at the market .After shopping tried to start no READY .so towed car home while in neutral . tried to jump start no READY. after parking it for a month l had 12v battery charged with a charger, tried to start no READY started scanning with elm327 (no GTOs, 2 incomplete Readiness mornitors catalyst and oxygen sensor) the battery went flat, jump start to my surprise READY.
After driving for some days run out of gas drove car on electricity until HV battery bars on screen finished, no READY .Added 3 liters and jump start, no READY .towed it home in neutral .added 10 liters more scanned ,connected bigger battery from another car(reading 13V),no READY .Tried the following
    1.check fuses OK
2.connected directly to fuel pump OK
3.shorted brake light switch No READY
car turns ON and able to on park and neutral only NO READY

This is alarming. You may have run down the traction battery below the point where it will spin the engine, which fits with the following.

When starting that car, the traction battery spins the engine with MG1 up to about 1,000 rpm, waits for the oil pressure switch to close, then starts the ignition and the fuel pump. No battery power, no engine spinning. No engine spinning, no fuel or ignition.

You're a couple volts below the normal operating voltage for a Gen 2, but it should still start. However, every time you try and fail to start it, you'll reduce the battery charge even more, so you really need to find out why it's not starting before you run the battery too flat.

No idea where the oil pressure switch is. Now that I think more about it, I'd think the fuel pump would start when the engine starts to crank so it has enough pressure ready then the injectors and ignition come on.

Perhaps a pro like @Elektroingenieur @Patrick Wong could help understand the sequence and point you in the right direction. We have some other really knowledgable people here, but these two just came to mind.

    Forget the oil pressure switch.

    1. Disconnect the 12V battery so the ECUs can reset.
    2. Fully-charge the 12V battery.
    3. Reconnect the 12V battery.
    4. Make the Prius READY.
    5. If the Prius does not become READY, note the fuel gauge reading.
    6. It would be a really good idea for you to not run out of gasoline; and when you refuel, to add more than 3 liters at a time. The Prius cannot detect that fuel has been added if you do not add at least 4 US gallons (15 liters) at one time.
    7. If the Prius hybrid vehicle ECU thinks that the car does not have fuel, it will not try to start the engine.
