Why and how did you get rid of your Gen 2 prius?

2004? Isn't "up" the normal position for a 2004? (at least it is for my 2009! )

I’m experiencing that phenomenon where I see a ton of 2g now that I got it.

When I went to Cambodia I saw TONS of 2gen Prius. I think the ones that get wrecked probably get sold over there. I saw two 3rd gens and no cutret gen prius.

 

I think everyone experiences that phenomenon. When I bought my Volt 2 years ago I only recalled ever seeing a couple on the road. After I got one I started seeing them on a semi regular basis.

Hello fellow Prius Owners. New member here....with my 2009 Prius Hatchback. I luv it! It is the most uneventful, economical car I've ever owned.. ...had 5 Saabs, 2 MBs, 2 Olds, 4 Chevys, 2-TBirds, 3 Corvettes (1950s).

Prius purchased from a Fiat Dealer in 2012, with 33K......impeccably maintained, indoor parking, back seat never sat in and trunk never used...Original owner a single, military officer.

Now, at 92K.
Oil changes at 5K, and fluids less often. New tires (oem), at 60K were from my Toyota Dealer.....paid for 3, 4th one free, with a one year warranty including labor. So far, it has replaced 3 for free....due to living in "pothole city".
No replacements sans a light bulb or two and cabin filters...may need brakes in the near future.

The only negative is that my Prius is terrible on icy, wet, winter surfaces. One winter, I put 2 bags of sand in trunk for traction on daily 99 mile interstate drives....didn't help much.

Immediate need is for a 2009 Toyota Prius Driver Left side (Gray) Rear View Mirror mount bracket...... an suv side swiped me yesterday....breaking the stem and leaving the mirror assembly dangling by its thick, white wire. Any ideas on how best to reattach or replace economically? (Just a 74 year old lady, with forced retirement, on ss researching the most favorable outcome.),

 

I drove my 2005 prius for a few years and it had over 200k miles, I gave it to my little sister and bought a 2012 prius.

I really wanted to have a newer smoother driving car. I loved that 2005, I still love it! That old 2005 is still running with over 300k miles now days.

I spent lots of time in my car when I upgraded. Most of the day actually, so I didn't feel so bad buying a newer car. I really loved the drive modes on the 2010+ prii. Also the driving position and adjustments were much upgraded vs the 2005.

Years later it turns out the 2nd gen was the real GEM <3 nowadays the 3rd gen is referred to as the "turd gen" it's really a good car but doesn't make for a amazing high milage car like a little tank of a taxi the gen 2 was.

 

There are 28 battery cells label cell 1 closest to the safety fuse; can you tell me which 5 cells failed? I think the cells near the middle experience 15 degC higher temperatures and has higher probability of failure. Wanted to get your data and experience to decide what to do when my battery fails.

 

Block 7 in mine is failing, and from what I've been seeing it seems around this area experiences disproportionately high failures, so you might be on to something.

 

In order to aid good communication, it is important to use the correct terminology.

There are 28 battery modules, These are labelled module 1 furthest from the safety fuse;

Cell = smallest unit of the battery;
Battery = collection of cells;

Prius terms:

Module = smallest physical unit comprised of 6 cells;
Block = Monitoring unit of 2 paired modules;
HV Battery = collection of 168 cells arranged in 28 modules.
