Realized I have been changing my oil every 5k miles, this morning. But has been really black. Didn't feel gritty at all and do use 0-20. Think I might just keep doing it at 5,000.

Hate to be wasteful. But was pretty black.

 

Forgot password so am now the new an' not so improved version of my own self.

The woman who owned this car, I don't think did much to it by way of maint. But finally got her, the car, getting good MPG. Brakes had not been releasing well. Actually have to do the left rear pads this morning. Got me thinking about you folks. And wondering where the cube universal piston tool is. After doing the fronts with a vise, thought I could ditch that PITB thing not realizing it would be needed.

Has anyone ever pressed in the rear piston rather than turning it in? Just read a horror story and don't wanna try it before asking. Even if I can't find the cube tool. Cheap enough and will just pick another up if lost. Actually that is the quickest way to find any tool. Buy a replacement and the old one magically appears. Always!

Anyway. Hope all yous guys (NYC accent) are doing well!

I know someone is gonna catch that I don't change pads in pairs. Just seems wasteful. Got 3 extra months on this set.

No, you need to screw it in, it's the only way. In the past I'd done it once or twice with needle nose plier tips, but it's awkward. Most automotive retailers will have those cubes, for under $10 I think.

I've probably bent your ear about the important of piston orientation before, fitting against the locking pin on the break pad back, so will try to restrain myself...

Found the cube thing before I had to get a new one.

Man! I hated the drums on last pri. Pads; pop out/pop in, snicker

Not finding anything on this. Why would the front brake piston be able to be pressed back in and the rears require it be turned back in when replacing the pads? Must have something to do with the E brake.....

Had wheels aligned a few months ago. All was fine. But rear left tire has excessive wear on outer rim. I am WAY lax on rotations. But is considerable. Not worried about replacing that particular tire anyway. It was a cheap one from previous Prius. So no loss there. And need to keep up better with rotation. But was excessive.

When I replace it, might invest in another alignment. Well, test anyway. I know they have a funky orientation on Prius-es

 

Rear disc brakes often have a caliper that needs to be screwed in, it's a fairly common parking brake incorporation. The other kind is a disc brake with a mini-drum brake at the center. The Prius v is like that I believe.

That's odd. The correct rear alignment would have the wheels splaying out slightly at the bottom, so the inside edge of tread tends to wear a little faster.

LoL, sorry. It's late. The tire wear. Your right and it is bassacwards. It should be thinning faster inboard.
