A friend had bought a 3rd gen prius that had an odo reading of a bout 100,000 mile . A year later he got triangle of death and check hybrid system . After a test the battery appeard to be dead and need replacement .Because his odo is slightly above 110,000 , he suspect the battery was relaced by the buyer.
How he can be sure the battery is the original one that was installed by Toyota ?

Not sure but with the vin, (Vehicle Identification Number) go to Toyota Owners Official Web Site to check out service history if done at a dealer. Really helpful site. Just not sure if they would have something as specific as an identifying S/N for their batt. or not.

In any event, a really useful site for any Toyota owner.

Best of luck and please report how you made out.

Get the serial number from the part code sticker on top of the HV battery and post it here. The serial number can be decoded to determine the manufacture date of the battery. Should be no more than a couple months older than the manufacture date of the car.
