I was looking at those super expensive hitch mount bike racks..Thule,Yakma (REI)....wow almost a $1000.00 bucks..well, I understand quality...for obvious reasons..but practicality and versatility has to weigh in my consideration,,versus coolness ..well in my garage I found a very inexpensive rack..for me, I have 3 young boys with bikes and although they don't ride as much as me, I would love on a weekend or during spring break, take the boys to the beach and ride on the bike path, Manhattan Beach, or even Long Beach..so I already have a Allen 103DN 3 bike carrier (bought from Amazon like $50.00) caveot..Amazon says it won't fit but when I look at the Allen site and looked at the fit list I discovered it also fits my Gen 3.. lets try it..so I did and here's the pic with it install..I was concerned with the spoiler and it clears everything fine. Most ppl prefered the hitch mount .. but for a lot less money and manufacturer suggestion that it will do the job ..I saved hundreds of dollars! Amazon = Fail...SMH fits perfectly clears the spoiler and the upper back side above your license plate update to follow when I get the bikes on the carrier I'm waiting for Allen Sports Tension Bar Cross Bar adaptor for my kids BMX bikes...
Respect your choice, but know the straps will damage your paint. As much as REAL bikes cost and how much I paid for the PRII...I also went hitch mount. FWIW, here's what I did...2010 Prius Hitch Receivers and Bike Racks | PriusChat
love the bike rack @SubCode ! I went for a top mounted rack. i have to remove the front wheels of the bike though when mounting. only downside.
roof top rack is cool too...rotator cuff surgery and 3 maybe 4 bikes...keeps that option off my list!..eventually that 2" hitch will get on my car!
Locked and loaded ready to ride!..btw..will be returning those cross bars! added a little protection microfiber cloth for paint protection... priceless....
Does anyone know if the Allen 102dn will fit a gen 3 just as well? We only have two bikes. It’s available Amazon prime in canada for only $57. I like the price!
Congrats on your wonderful family. My dad used to take me biking back in the day- some of my best memories. Great Prius too
Very cool & thanks! I'm going to order the 2-bike version of the same thing, 102DN-R, and see if it works for us.
Update - Good news, Allen 102DN-R bike rack works for our 2010 (Gen 3) Prius, even though it's not on the rack's "compatible list of cars" on its package. Thanks to the OP, I installed this 2-bike rack basically the same way, with the top rubber stands resting at the same spot (edge of the back window), and the lower rubber stands on the flat part of the trunk with the Toyota logo above the license plate area - this rack must be smaller then OP's 3-bike rack. Afterthought - It'll probably be a good idea to wipe that area clean every time before putting the rack on, so to protect the paint from being scratched by dirt/dust etc.
Need a receiver hitch also because I already bought a Surco bike rack from 4wheelonline. I'm just curious if anyone here has a Draw-Tite class 1 hitch.
