Prius Prime won't be available in FL ?

We had a local plugin meeting Saturday and met a newbie to Huntsville from Chicago who drove his BEV i3, 600 miles, to Huntsville . . . 3 days.

I was able to find my Prime Advanced in Greenville, SC but as already noted Southeast Toyota has not embraced the Prime. Southeast Toyota is owned by JM Family Enterprises, Inc. I suggest that those interested in changing Southeast Toyota's aversion to the Prime to write to the CEO and the COO of JM Family. I've seen an occasional Prime for sale on Autotrader and Cars.com around the southeast and one in the wild while in Atlanta but there are not many in the Southeast. I found mine on Autotrader and fortunately I did not have the usual bloat of Southeast Toyota add-ons.

 

Caution! I’ve been having troubles with a front end noise that even techs can hear but the knowledge of these new primes isn’t in thier repertoire. They don’t have a comparison vehicle which is the major problem. The flip side is no one else has this problem in a Prius prime so maybe I bought the only one! The ectopia tires are junk! I’m planning to pull them off when I get back from work to replace them with Yokohama avid ascend tires as I’ve heard good things about them. Hopefully they will get more than one in time!

 

A Toyota sales rep. in Florida said to me and I quote .....

I appreciate your business over the years. But when we win a lottery and get a vehicle that we have been unable to get for over a year and have been telling people we cant get it and turning them away....We ask a premium for it.

So to them, it is like winning a lottery to have the one and only Prius Prime in their inventory, and the premium is $3,000 over MSRP which he called the "Market Adjustment".

 

It you settle for a Prime Premium, you could fly to DC, get this one for $3,000 LESS than MSRP & drive it home. I am sure Gen 1 owner Sam Lee would be glad to sell it to you.

Yup...something like a $100 ticket can get you to DC, Philly, Newark, Hartford, Providence, Boston and a whole bunch of dealers who would be happy to show you lots of colors, options, large Toyota rebates and many thousand dollars off MSRP.

Take a couple of trips to view/test drive, another trip to purchase and even a couple of hotel rooms as you enjoy the drive back south and you are still many thousand dollars ahead of letting these guys rip you off.

 

I mentioned Sam because he know & appreciates Prius. I am sure he has studied up on the Prime. He is used to dealing from a distance too.

I recommended him to a coworker who was car shopping. Sam counseled him against buying at that time until finances improved. the coworker could have bought, but it would have been a financial strain on the young family. My coworker appreciated the wise advice.

 

Interesting! I just got a call from the dealer where I get my parts. I'd been in there the other day talking with them about Prius and the Prime. He called to say that a Prime just showed up on their show room floor. I said, "Thanks, but I can't buy anything right now." He said, "I know, but I figured you'd want to see one in person." He figured right!! I might just swing by there on the way home. I have some shop rags in my car in case I drool.

Well that 3000 increase makes my driving to MD from FL that much better. Paying cash Toyota gives MD purchases a 3000 instant rebate! So I guess I can look at it as I saved 6,000!

 

screw the 3K... fly into Newark and buy one in NJ and they'll give you $4500 back. an extra few hours driving into MD and it'll save you $1500 more. For that price you can just have it shipped back and avoid the hassle.

 

Ah yes, the old "market adjustment" trick.

I will say that the trip to look at a Prime at that stealership was more than a year ago. I'd bet their adjustments have dropped by 50% or more by now. The Midwest's largest Tesla store is almost next door to them. And Ferrari, Lambo, and everything else that's 6 figures and up.

 

Nice to see they finally changed their name so people know where they really are. Westmont <> Oakbrook.

Well, I stopped in and looked at the rare beastie and I really do like it except for the lack of a spare and the reduced cargo area. I think it's a great looking car, but when the time comes to replace the '07, I don't want to be having to take up half the cargo area to put in a spare and then try to secure it with nothing to fasten it to when we make a long trip.

I was impressed with the fit & finish, especially under the hood. It's an Advanced, so the screen is really impressive.

 

Like the customer care crosses out!!! Exactly what happened.
