c foglights

So the wire for pin 23 on 3B (color BE?) exists, and pin 12 in G3(B) "combination meter assembly" is populated? (http://kwhubby.com/foglights/ewd.pdf)? I thought it wasn't there. I might need to try it and update my instructions.
I'm wondering what color "BE" stands for?

 

... I poked around, and could not find a wire. Masterloc, what color is this "BE" wire and how far back to the dash do you need to get to find it? Do you have a picture or diagram of its location?

 

Did you ever figure this out with your's? I'm having the same problem with not having the dash indicator light working.

on my C, I simply replaced the turn signal/headlight switch with one from a fog-equipped car, plugged in the fogs I got from amazon into the existing harness, and everything worked. Dash indicator, etc all worked perfect.

2013 prius C 3. Fog lights plugs were already inside the bumper. Got a used switch assembly from a junkyard.

I got my hands on a replacement stalk with the fog toggle and was going to go the OEM route but the lights and housings seem really expensive. Which ones did you buy on amazon? Any concerns on incompatibility between non oem lights and using the built in wiring?

I ended up picking up used OEM lights and a stalk. I was planning on installing everything this weekend but I've never replaced a stalk before.

Did you have to take off the steering wheel, or were you able to remove the housing around the stalks without removing the wheel?

Yes. Airbag, steering wheel, and column surround all get removed. Took about 30 mins to swap out, but I'm pretty familiar with taking cars apart.

Nevermind, I figured it out. It was a combination of disengaging that metal spring and yanking on the whole thing.

All is working for me. I have a 2013 Prius c 3 and used the built in wiring. Thanks for the help all.

 

Hey guys, new here...I just wanted to chime in. I've been working on auto electrical for the last 30 years (yes 30 years, probably longer than most of been alive) anyway, here is an easier solution for those who want fog lights but do not want to spend a lot of money. all you need is a pair of fog lights and a piece of wire (yes that’s it!). (if a fog light switch is desired then you will need a switch). First install the fog lights (as most of you know, the wires for the fog lights are already pre-wired from the factory). Once completed with the install of the fog lights, move to the column. All you need to do is take off the three screws holding the steering column housing together and separate just the bottom half of the column (turn the steering wheel left and right to access the two screws behind the steering wheel). You will then see the wire harness to the stalk. Next unplug the harness, you will see two rows of wires. One row with around eight wires and the second row with just two wires. (yes you guessed it, the second row (Gray and white wire are for the fog light switch). Just jump the two wires together with a piece of solid wire (paper clip). Push the jumper all the way in (see picture) and plug the harness back in. You’re Done! So now when you turn on your headlights, the fog lights will work (the indicator on the dash works also, and when you turn on the High Beams they go off like they should). Now if you really want a Fog Light Switch then T-splice each wire separately to the switch so when push the button, it creates the loop it needs to work. I did mine without the switch because I want them on when I’m driving (after all, isn’t that’s the reason why we want fog lights?) total time at the column, 10 minutes. Time to install fog lights, 30 minutes. Good luck!

 

Would this same trick apply for people who have factory fogs and would like them to stay on when the brights are applied?

Unfortunately no, because it's going thru the factory ECM, it's program that way. The only way to accomplish this would be to wire it with aftermarket harness via bypassing factory harness.

I do have another solution for you if you really want them on with brights, when I get home later I will post a wire diagram you can follow.

 

Yes. usually when car manufacturers build cars/trucks, they run the same wire harness for all trim levels. it would cost too much for them to make a wire harness for different options, this way they can add switches, lights, cruise control or what ever as the car goes down the assembly line.

 

My old Saturn had the ability to place a jumper in the fuse panel and it allowed all lights to be on at the same time. I didn't know if there was something like that for the PC.

 

I have a C2 2014. I saw there is a fog light OEM on priuschat store. I probably shouldn't wire it myself and get someone locally to do it. But is that kit pretty much plug&play? I think there is a toggle switch and that can go on the dash. From what I'm reading, the internal wiring is already part of the car.

Do fog lights need to be aimed like headlights?

 

It has been confirmed above that it is plug and play with shorting some terminals together in the stalk (or you can probably go look for the C4 stalk part # and order it from toyota). Would require no wiring other than popping off the front bumper to get easy access into screwing in the fog light housing.

Also any aftermarket fog light kit would be cheaper (and come with 55W bulbs, unlike the OEM 16W osrams that are pretty much just glorified DRL)
