The new red decal has finally arrived for people to apply. Just get confused by the application form. In Section 2 the reason to apply: replacement decals: stolen, lost/damaged or not received?
If you currently have green decals ... don't bother ... and no word yet on the new stickers that will be good 2019-2021 from: https://www.arb.ca.gov/msprog/carpool/carpool.htm#vehicles Red Clean Air Vehicle Decals The California DMV is now issuing the new "Red" decal for all qualifying vehicles pursuant to CVC §§5205.5 and 21655.9. The new red decal will be valid until January 1, 2019. Green Clean Air Vehicle Decals are are no longer being issued, but are valid until January 1, 2019 (per AB 266). NOTE: Owners of vehicles issued the above Red, White, and Green HOV decals from January 1, 2017 to December 31, 2018, may apply for a new Clean Air Vehicle Decal that will expire on January 1, 2022.
So what is the point of the new Red decals, if they expire at the same time as the existing white and green decals? Is there some technical difference as to where they are recognized? For example, the Green decals are not recognized on the Golden Gate Bridge, but the White ones are.
Mr. joachimz, Thanks for your post; I just called, 3-12-18, 9:14am, and was told that they still don't know when NEW 2022 expiration HOV stickers will be released. The woman said availability will be posted on the CARB site you've listed, as well as the DMV site (she didn't know the URL link for that). So it's hurry up and wait! My guess is that they will follow old yellow decal. Green and White will be expired on 12/31/2018. Red decal will get extension for 3 more years and all the green (2017) and white decal owner will apply for red decal. Unless CARB come will new different shade of red decal. haha.
