Got my taxes done today at HR Block. They have the 8936 but it helped that I had a printout of the IRS page stating the amount I could claim: Qualified Vehicles Acquired after 12 31 2009 | Internal Revenue Service
FWIW: The vendor who provides my tax preparer's professional software is telling him that while the 2017 8936 is final, the worksheet used to compute the numbers you put on the 8936 is still tentative, so filing now carries some risk of having to file an amended return if the worksheet changes.
Must be why my guy is dragging his feet on getting mine completed. Been in his hands now over a month.
I just took a look at the 8936 worksheet in TurboTax and there's no indication that it's not final. (True, "Tentative Credit" is used in the heading for Part IV and for line 17 but that same wording was used in 8936 worksheet of 2016). TT let me efile 3/1/18, and feds accepted return same day
Just an FYI, got sick of waiting for Turbo tax and seen that other people filed thru Credit Karma and were already issued refunds so I gave it a shot and filed thru them on 2/24/18. The IRS accepted the return in a few hours, approved it yesterday and said my refund will be deposited on 3/15. I was worried it would be an issue after I filed because I then looked at the forms Credit Karma filed and it was the 2017 draft. But we will see on the 15th if all goes well. The form from 2016 and the draft form were exactly the same forms word for word.
He said "vendor who provides my tax preparer's professional software". It's the software that the preparer uses that the IRS has not yet blessed all of "its" forms. Turbo Tax, HR Block, etc. all have to have their software blessed by the IRS before the end users can use it. The 8936 worksheet for the particular software package that his tax preparer uses, has not been blessed or updated. The forms on the IRS web site can be ready and complete, but a 3rd party software company's software may still be pending approval. That's his situation.
Totally depends on what software vendor he uses to prepare returns. Hopefully he'll get yours done soon.
My tax preparer just informed me that everything he needs for Form 8936 is finalized in the software he is using, and I can file my return. However, since I owe a balance, I am in no hurry to actually send in the payment.
Just saw the direct deposit for both my Federal and State refunds. Would have been nice to see this back in Feb, but I'll still take it. I e-filed March 1st.
