In need of tires. Michelin x tour ?

They were not the cheapest. They were over $500. Discount Tire was $435 installed.

I was on my phone at Belle Tire searching for tires. If Costcos website wasn't so terrible (it is completely frozen right now, tells me to "select warehouse" and nothing happens when I do), I'd have a price on the Ecopias...But it's frozen.

I think they are $375 + $60 install + tax??? But can't confirm because their website doesn't work.

 

185/65/15. Ended up picking up my cousin and working on a car last night. He had at least 150 pounds of tools in the back. He's also over 350 pounds himself. MPG on dash dropped but haven't done a hand calculation yet. They are a little noisy but nice tires. I would try Michelin and maybe on the next time do the Ecopias or vice versa...

 

I could tell they were not the greatest shop in town. Just a few old mechanics working extremely slow. They even said when I called at 10am to bring the car in tomorrow because they were all booked up. I asked if I could drop off the car and if they could squeeze me in and finally they asked and said yes. Took them about 6 hours.

The only reason I took it to them was because I didn't feel like waiting 3 days for Discount or Belle Tire to order them. Firestone had them in stock.

That was the only tire that looked like that. Are you saying my weights should look like this?

 

Not sure why Costco price went from $375 up to $519 (or if it is a different Ecopia 422+) but here are the prices I am showing (EDIT: COSTCOS VERY GHETTO WEBSITE changed tire to a 16 when I clicked on the details price is actually $458.76):

 

They shouldn't have used clip-on weights: should be adhesive attached weights inside the rim. Clip-on weights are typically only used on inside rim.

 

This touch up paint is perfect match, if the weights have chewed up the rims. Good to have for the inevitable road rash too:

Toyota's paint code. It really is a perfect match, for Toyota silver painted rims.

You can get touch up paint at dealership. It comes with either pen or brush applicator, depending on region? Up here it's a chisel-pen tip, with the colour at one end, and clearcoat at the other. I've found the clearcoat doesn't work that well, and tends to lift the colour coat, so don't use it.

No. You, yourself noticed the oddity.

This is what your weights should look like.
1) Outside edge weights should be taped/glued, NOT clip on.\

2) Inside edge weights are clip on weights.

 

38 PSI front and 36 PSI rear. I don't know if there really is such a thing and break in these day, but if were a real thing, it wouldn't be more than 1 or 2,000 mi. I'd be more inclined to believe there was a "getting over placebo effect", to be honest.

 

I'm buying Michelin Energy Saver all season this week (2013 v), and buying a 2nd set of rims to have Michelin winter tires put on and use seasonal.

I went 42/40 but that's simply because I heard it on priuschat once or twice. My first two fill-ups were around 41mpg (which is what I have gotten on every gen 2 prius I've ever owned so must be my driving style). These calculations were with what Firstone set psi to (around 32 all around)....Have yet to go to gas station with 42/40 psi hopefully will be above 42mpg.

 

At 32 psi I got the blinking last bar of gas around 330 and filled up at 344.

At 42/40 psi I got the blinking last bar at around 370 and know I could have went to 400 miles on 1 tank. Whoever came up with this setup is brilliant!

 

Some comment regarding the Michelin X-Tour, from @The Critic . He figures they are rebadged Defender T+H. Which I guess are rebadged Defenders:

The X Tour is the wholesale club version of the Defender T+H. So on our site you would see it referred to it's Michelin name, the Defender T+H. Same specifications and compounds, as well as performance."

 

Is the cost of Costco tires include install and alignment? Or just install? I have a membership but have never used Costco for tires. I usually buy online and install them with my local tire shop.

 

Costco prices are tires only. Not sure in the States, but up here the install is $15 extra, and TPMS refurb is $4 extra. There's also a charge for recylcing the old tires, maybe $2. I believe the sales tax is on everything but that last $2, not sure.

Definitely does not include alignment check, which you don't need unless you're noticing problems, and in which case I would go to specialty place. There's not much you can adjust on a Prius, fwiw
