Hello Everyone, I'm looking to upgrade my wheels for my Advanced Prime, however I don't want to purchase a heavier wheel. That being said, does anyone have any info on how much the stock wheels weigh? I've researched and haven't found any info but do apologize in advance if this has been discussed before. Thanks in advance to all.
Here's a nice one that's 17.2 pounds. Genuine OEM TRD Wheel 15"x6.5" 5x100 Machined 10 Spoke - PT945-47160 - QTY. 1 | eBay
Stock Prime and Gen 4 Rim weights at 16.5lb , combo with toyo nano enrgy 195/65/15 weights at right around 33.5lb
Have you removed the ugly hubcaps yet to reveal the wonderful full alloy rims that reside underneath? Could save you a lot of $$$.
Yes, I have. Definitely a temporary solution but I think after some time, I'd want to go with something different. Speaking of removing the hubcaps, salesman stated they are designed to produce airflow to keep the regenerative brakes cool and removing could cause over heating. I don't necessarily believe him but wondering if anyone else heard the same?
Well considering regenerative braking is done by the electric motors and not the brake pads, I'd say hogwash lol. Logically it doesn't make sense (removing a cover and exposing more of the brake disc and brake pads worsen the cooling availability?!?!). The wheel covers are for aerodynamic purposes. More of the space between the spokes that are covered = less turbulent air flow around the face of the wheel. There *could* be some design factor that sucks in the air from the face as some performance cars do but I doubt the Prime's wheel covers do that.
Decent thread, I use my 06 wheels for winter wheels and was thinking of getting lighter wheels for the summer wheels and using the origional wheels for the winter tires, then I read this thread a week ago and saw the weight, 16lbs, and decided not to, but these costco suckers are two pounds lighter, the 06 wheels are oxidizing and the tpms are shot, so now, back to new summer wheels.
I’m looking at the apex Velox SLGLXX, weighs in 13 lbs. Not a Costco member but will wait a lucrative coupon or discount promo before buying at a big chain tire shop.
