Newbies - Let's See Some Pics!

I officially joined the Prius Prime Family on 1/27/2018.

 

Here's the Prius I bought late December. Loving it so far! Great MPGs and smooth ride. Better throttle response than my old yaris!

 

Greetings from Metro Boston area, here she is, new to me 2010 Prius V with advanced tech package.

 

After a few months of forum l̶u̶r̶k̶i̶n̶g̶ researching, I made my decision and ordered myself a Prime Plus! Been a 5 month process first convincing the dealership that the Prime existed and could be ordered outside of LA and NY markets, then waiting for the 2018s to be released.

Her name is Bobby Dazzler and she's a 2018 Prime Plus with Grey out and Moonstone in.


First new car since my 2001 Ford Focus so it's taking some acclimatization. Glad to be here!

 

Helped the younger brother pick this one up on Sunday, he fell in love with mine after he drove it for a couple of days.

2010 Prius IV, its in decent condition, a small crack on the the underside of the front bumper, needs new floor mats and rear headrests (missing for some reason), a good detail and two front tires. I drove the this car for 60 miles on the highway and I couldnt believe how light it was on its feet due to the skinnier tires with smaller 15" wheels.

The 17" wheels with the wider tires may look great but they significantly affect the MPGs, ride quality and level of Prius' eagerness.

 

Some people remove the rear headrests to improve rear view mirror visibility. Mine can be tilted forward out of the way.

 

Makes sense, the seller was the second owner and he bought it used from the Toyota dealer so he had no idea where they went and never got bothered by them being missing.

Wow! that color! amazing. What a futuristic design, too. I love it.

 

I have read some amazing reviews of the new Camry hybrid. Is it really great? Have you been getting the EPA 52 mpg? That is just beyond impressive fuel economy for that size sedan. Very little to compromise, if anything. Wish they made a camry hatchback/wagon style.

I've not been getting the full EPA mileage, however this is likely due to the weather. It has been bitter cold and now that it is warming up it has rained nearly every day. Both of these negatively impact mileage. I expect to do much better in warmer temps. My lifetime is 50.1 MPG as of today. The lifetime mileage started out low because the salesman showed me the car's features in bitter cold with the engine on while going nowhere.

It is only fair to note that I have an easy commute and that roughly half the time I'm trying very hard to get good mileage. I drive normally or even aggressively (when running late) on the way to work but I drive very conservatively on the way home. Also I drive off hours with less than normal traffic.

So the weather is pushing mileage down while my commute and driving style push it up.

Cold weather, rain or snow, traffic, aggressive driving and short commutes are murder on mileage.

Warmer weather, dry conditions, hyper-mile techniques, and long commutes will produce better than EPA results.

It has not been warm enough to judge the effects of AC on mileage. Generally the hotter the better, except that AC starts to take a toll in the Summer.

 

My experience with the Prius says that heating has a larger toll on mileage than air conditioning. The engine cools off quicker when using the heater so it needs to run more.

So I've had pri pri chan for about 2 months now. Bought her for Uber but she has actually grown on me. I also have a 2016 Malibu Premier and it's funny. For every reason I like my Malibu, I like pri pri for the exact polar opposite reason. She had the standard 15's when I bought her but I found someone selling Celica GT-S 16's locally. I wanted to repaint them eventually...like a gunmetal color.

I should've elaborated. The malibu is fast to the point that traffic is boring to me. It handles nicely and it's got all the tech features. But the 06 prius I have is much simpler. Surprisingly quick. Handles better than I thought I prius could, but most importantly the gas mileage. So where I love my Malibu for being fast and exciting, I love the prius for the opposite reasons. Because the gas mileage it gets compared to my malibu (which is good) gets me excited in the same way the speed of the malibu gets me excited.

 

I drove several sports cars before getting my first hybrid so I understand exactly. The sports cars were fast but of course the hybrid did much better on fuel. Your attention turns toward fuel efficiency as an "opposite" way to appreciate a car.
