why someone will buy prius when we get $4500 federal rebate + state rebates + utility rebates (in some states) on prius prime. Only reason to buy prius over prius prime i think is 5 seater vs 4 seater. Your thoughts ?
My wife fell in love with the black one we bought and she was afraid of the Prime fearing it would be a problem being they were new out. She was like that when we bought our new 2008 Prius, she insisted on buying the extended warranty and we never needed it. I wanted a Prime but gave into her concerns. Happy wife, happy life.
1. The Prime was not available in Virginia in October 2016 2. Not everybody gets the generous California rebates 3. Charging for plugins are not plentiful here in Central Virginia 4. I chose to spend the extra money elsewhere. (Farmall 140 row crop tractor)
I do not get any state rebates here in Maine. We also have very few charging stations. We bought a 2011 Prius and we love it. A few years later I bought a 2017 Prius Prime which I recharge using our household solar power system. My wife mostly drives the 2011 Prius. We get a lot of waste-food from our school district cafeterias, and from the grocery store, that we use to feed our pigs. My wife's Prius has far more storage space to haul stuff. Our state is not a prefered market for hybrid cars. Toyota only sends the dealers whatever the corporation decides to send. Dealers here can not order a car that a customer wants. California gets very special status and privilege that others state lack.
My 16 model 4 got 71mpg the first summer, 51mpg that winter. My 17 prime advanced got 97.3 mpg the first summer, 89.5 mpg this winter and winters below 20ish, the ice never turns off, it's already headed back toward 97.3mpg, the advanced drives like a sports car, not power which it has but handling, storage is great, it holds my 203cm snow board with ease, or an abundance of trash, tools, etc.
If you’re an Uber or Lyft driver you have to get the regular lift back. That’s one of the main reasons why I got the Prime. To differentiate myself from all the bad rideshare drivers that clutter our roads in SF.
Touring model available on Prius Larger trunk space (it's pretty much the most spacious one with the seats up and no spare tire, in its class) 5 seats Available power moonroof Can get a mid-level version with cloth seats (some people don't like the SofTex) ICS, IPA, BSM and RCTA are "standard" (part of a no cost option package)
spare tire available on some trim levels. all the above being said, prime is crushing the lift back in sales.
Perhaps in some areas. I have seen a few Gen 4 around here. I think I saw a Prime behind me once. Plenty of gen 2 & 3 Prii here though.
We do not have curbside trash/recycle, but need to drive recyclables in different bins, pre-sorted, along with any trash, to our "transfer station" in our town. We also need to bring kid to college and back. The Prime has a lot less cargo room.
More trunk space, allows for more pig-feed. I have carried honeybees and chicks in the back, but never pigs, yet.
