I have a 1 gen prius 2001 1.5l. Pops code P0402 every so often. Runs fine no other symptoms. Can't for the life of me figure it out. I can't find any info on an EGR valve on this little motor. Any ideas out there?
That code does relate to EGR, but wondered if the DTC may have actually been P0420. I could not find any relation to a P0402 on a 2001 Prius. Just asking and trying to help. I have a 2001 Prius repair manual but no listing of a P0402 DTC. Weird.
Yes I’m sure of the code and that’s the problem I’m having I cannot find it in the manual anywhere and I cannot locate an EGR valve on this vehicle
No P0402 in the code list, and no EGR on the Gen 1 engine. Look as hard as you want. Funky code reader used to read the code? Engine ECU replaced with a wrong one? -Chap
I agree Chap, that was exactly where I was going. I would have to be one of those two choices. If it appeared more than once, and it set an CEL I would consider the wrong ECM. If just a DTC w/o CEL, code reader is issue.
