Replacing Roof Molding and Clips

Hey all, my driver side roof molding came loose last week and discovered the front of the molding was superglued (maybe the clip is underneath the superglue?).

I plan to remove the glue, clips, and replace the molding and clips this weekend. Has anyone seen this before?

 

Also, I bought some Goo-Gone since I read it is safe on paint. Maybe soak the glue in goo gone for awhile and nudge at it with a butter knife from below. I heard about some using acetone, but that will eat away the clear coat.
