What company atually makes the radio units in the 2016 Prius lineup? Searching online was a waist of time. I did find hints at JBL and Pioneer for some models. I see Panasonic at the FW update site.
In the U.S., it’s Panasonic. For other markets, it may be different; I posted a list a few months ago. I don’t know why, but that site is no longer a reliable source. There are definitely software updates for the head units, as announced most recently in bulletin T-SB-0279-17, “Entune Audio Head Unit Software Update (Panasonic),” published on September 8, 2017, which supersedes all revisions of the older bulletin T-SB-0103-16. The bulletin and update files are available by subscription to techinfo.toyota.com; at this writing, I’m not aware of a free source. To download the update files, you’ll need a Professional Diagnostic subscription (from $55). For Entune Audio (ID 510028), the latest version is 010148, and for Entune Premium Audio (ID 510053 or ID 510054), the latest version is 01018D. (The ID number is printed on the lower right corner of the faceplate.)
I just went and had a look - mine says JBL: I knew the speakers were - the logo reflects in the windscreen
JBL may have made the speakers and the amplifier, but the Electronic Parts Catalog says the head unit for the Australia-specification Prius (ZVW50R-AHXEBQ) is made by FUJITSU TEN: 86804-47350 RECEIVER ASSY, NAVIGATION ZVW50..ARL FUJITSU TEN,ID100396,AUDIO-AUSTRALIA SPEC & AVN & *BT & USB & JBL 86140-47260 RECEIVER ASSY, RADIO & DISPLAY ZVW50..ARL FUJITSU TEN,ID100395 Since your car has the JBL system, I expect the head unit is marked with the ID number 100396 in the lower-right corner of the faceplate.
Probably not a great idea to flash the FW if it is not a Panasonic. Maybe! BTW! The whole reason for the question is that most companies stopped making HD radios except in the high end models. I was looking for a Home use conversion with a power supply for the house. Maybe a junk yard Toyota unit will work?????
