Another dead as doornail

    I have a 2012 Japanese version with around 55k km on it...ie. under 40k miles. The auxiliary battery was replaced 10 months ago. Now nothing at all works. I can't open the hatch. The start button does nothing. Full shut down.
    It's been working ok...a few complaints about decline in range on full charge. I got rear ended and Toyota did an awful job fixing up the back. The hatch hasn't been closing fully and warning beeping is full time. I'm scheduled to go back in for further work on this in two weeks.
    Question is, what to do now? How can I get the thing to move,,,or for that matter, roll up the windows before predicted rain?

    Maybe the hatch not closing properly is running down the the battery?

    Have you tried connecting with jumper cables or a portable jump-starter? The regular charging cable also charges the 12 volt battery, so maybe that can give you enough charge- give it a couple of hours to do its work.

    there is a jump point under the hood, in the fuse box on n/a version. if you can't jump it, crawl in the back and use the emergency manual hatch opener. see the o/m.

    of course if the hatch is open its going to drain the battery, the red door open light stays on all the time.
    you can crawl through the back seat and open the hatch manually, look on line or in the owners manual..
    hook a REAL battery charger to the 12 volt not these cheap pocket sized jump packs to the battery and it should turn on.
    have you tried inserting the fob (remote) into the slot on the dash to start the car.. to the right of the steering wheel..
    odds are very good the 12 volt battery is bad now due to being run all the way down, when you get the hatch open replace it..should be a free exchange if its less then a year old
    if you cant get it to turn on get some plastic bags and tape to cover the windows, the Prius hates water.

    there's no slot on gen 3.

    ok then he can hold the fob next to the start button, there has to be a way for the car to detect the fob and start if the fob battery dies..
    seems stupid they removed the slot.. another cost cutting measure I guess

    Thanks everyone. The 'no
    slot' problem is real. I have call-out insurance so I ended up calling the AA (automobile association in NZ, not alkies anon.). A guy came out and jump started me, but that doesn't charge the battery. He also told me my el cheapo battery charger wasn't ok for the AGM Auxiliary battery...so I ended up buying a new smart-but-slow charger. It's been charging now for 18 hours. The LED indicators say it's 'reconditioning' the battery ATM. Batteries are expensive here so I guess slow is worth it. I stuck a padlock into the hatch latch to kill the battery drain. What a big PITA.

    What charger specifically? 18 hours seems a looong time, maybe doesn't bode good? Depends on the rated amperage though. Check the Owner's manual, but 3~4 amps is a good range.
