Bought a used 2015, came with one smart key. I dont know if there were ever 2 smart keys programmed and one lost or what, or if two were deleted and one added back in, etc. All i know is I have one perfectly functional smart key. Can a locksmith just “add” another new/virgin keyfob while keeping my current keyfob too, or is this particularily complicated? Can people add it using Techstream?
I had to go to a bigger city to a locksmith with this ability, but it cost $200 instead of having the key made for $380 at the dealership to make a second new smart key. So yes, it can be done. I waited one hour while they programmed everything. BTW, I also have Premium AAA coverage, which reimburses $150 for a key replacement! It took 6 weeks but they came through with a check. Other levels of AAA membership have lower reimbursement rates, so check that out if you are a member!
