After nearly 8 years of ownership, my 2010 finally has in-dash USB charging ports. It's clean, a perfect fit, and cheap - from Amazon. Now I need to scrub the rest of the plastic under there.
Looks good! Unfortunately that spot has been taken as my car has OEM heated seats. I'll stick to the one that is in the cubby and a USB charger in the cubby.
Maybe replace that plastic panel with the same one for a PiP? I think the PiP could have seats with two heat levels, using one of those rectangular switches for each seat. You could put your combined seat switch in one, and the USB gizmo in the other. -Chap
In what cubby? There's a couple other places the same plug would fit perfectly. This just worked out well for me. I don't have USB in the armrest, just the AUX input. I have an earlier 2010 that I bought in July 2009, pre-USB input.
The center console. I have JBL navigation so the oem USB port is right next to the aux port and a 12V power port next to it so I plug in a USB charger for other phones for passengers.
My early JBL w/Nav doesn't have a USB. They rolled that in later in the model year. I used to keep a charger in that 12v port, but didn't like the cord coming out of that arm rest. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
I made pigtails form the 12v outlet. Was pretty simple to do on the workbench. I'll see if i can pull it out and take some photos in the next couple days.
Thanks for your reply. I'll have a look in there over the weekend, was just curious if you used the 12v outlet (which of course makes most sense) or connected elsewhere. Would you also be able to tell me where the clips are / how to best remove that plastic surrounding the 12V outlet? Thanks so much.
I think I just pried the bottom of the panel. You can see where I scratched it in the original photo I posted, so be careful.
Here’s my setup. Low profile usb chargers, lightning cables and micro usb cables. 4 total connections. Works great! No more issues with someone not being able to get a charge, especially for people sitting in the back.
