I have the SOS button on my day-old Four Touring, but Safety Connect is not installed. Is this a dealer-installed item? I didn't see it listed as an option on the web site when I "built" my car.

Another question: on my Lexus the SOS button can be used to get the GPS programmed remotely. Is this also the case on the Toyota? Example: I was looking for a particular Holiday Inn in a certain area and when I searched in the GPS system there was insufficient space to display all of the information about the hotels; I couldn't tell which one I wanted without seeing the hotel name. I pressed SOS and talked to a responder who programmed the correct hotel in seconds.

    Thanks!

Safety Connect needs to be activated. You press once and once you let them know it's not an emergency and you want to set up an account, they'll walk you through it.

What you're speaking of is Destination Assist. It's not available on your Prius. On Toyota vehicles, it's only available on vehicles equipped with Entune 3.0. As of February 2018, that would be the 2018 Camry and 2018 Sienna with Integrated Navigation.

The dealer didn’t do the setup for mine either — even though the service is free for the first year of ownership.

Seems like a reasonable deal ($80/year) after the 1-year trial period runs out since it includes road side assist, On the other hand you get the roadside assist for free the fist two years anyway.

I would be very curious to know what cell provider they use. Anybody?

Thanks to both for your responses. I have activated the service. It was pretty simple, as I was already in their records with my Lexus account. No surprise that the Prius version doesn't have quite all of the features that the Lexus version has.

@ATHiker: my free service period is three years; I bought the car on 02/14/18 and the service expires on 02/13/2021. In response to my question the agent said that the service uses AT&T wireless. Fine with me, because I've been using AT&T since the first day of the iPhone and it has never failed me.

    Thanks again!
