Its 19° in Denver, CO right now, at least that's what my Prius Prime says. My car had been sitting outside for a couple of hours and when I got into the Prime and pressed the start button, the Temperature number was blinking. It blinked about 5 time and then didn't blink any more. I wasn't sure what that mean but I took my car out of The default EV move and switched it to HV mode and the engine came on. Any thoughts out there in Primeland? Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
it might be a frost or freezing warning. might be a fault with the sensor and or wiring. thats all i can think of right now.
I've never noticed that before. What does it supposed to mean , other than it's cold out? Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
It blinks when the outside temperature is below 32 degrees F. That's just what it does. There is no fault in any wiring.
Owner’s Manual (PDF), page 197: “The temperature display flashes for approximately 10 seconds when the outside temperature drops to approximately 37°F (3°C) or less, and then stops flashing.” Beware of ice on the road. It’s a standard safety feature; my German car, for example, had a snowflake that appeared when the outside temperature was below 41 °F.
On the Gen 4 it blinks at 37 F or less for 10 seconds, according to the manual. It is warning there could be ice on the roadways.
