Glass Break Sensor - It's a Toyota option for the security system. Basically, if someone breaks the windows of the car (or something else that makes a similar sound...the alarm goes off.

My worst experience wasn't with Jiffy Lube, but with an "Econo Lube 'n Tune" in the SF Bay Area - but same concept.

I lost faith in those types of chains when I brought my '93 Probe w/ a K&N drop-in filter that had just been installed in for an oil change (it was used, but clean when I installed it - no stickers in their defense). The guy came out with bits of fluf dropped into the filter and offered to replace it.

I told them that they were complete idiots if they were in the automotive industry and didn't know what a K&N filter was - washable and reusable air filter that doesn't need to be "replaced" at the first sign of dirt. They claimed all of their techs were ASE certified and that they knew what they were doing.

I never went back - opted to do my own oil changes in the Apartment parking lot after that ;-).

My Contour - car after that - saw a Jiffy Lube a couple of times, but the worst I had there was them wanting to use 10W30 when the spec was 5W30.

I think what drove me to those places was that I was on a tighter budget, and lived in places that didn't permit me to do my own work (i.e. apt complex or condo complex w/ strict HOA). Dealer costs were too high at the time, so I opted for the cheaper experience, with the understanding of the risks ;-)

My Prius (both of them) have only been done by a dealer or myself. Dealer got my business when they were free ('02) or cheap (coupon), but then I started doing them myself once I had my own house to do them at.

Clarify this? As in the synthetic pennzoil container being tampered with by Jiffy Lube and dino oil put in? Or the Pennzoil synthetic itself not being a true synthetic?

I know Pennzoil isn't the only oil company that isn't a true PAO synthetic, but a class 3 purebase like what Castrol syntec as well.

Would you like people standing at your desk and watching you at work all day? Maybe that's why ball players make so much money. People like to watch them at work too.

I did my own oil changes for a long time, but not for the past few years. After I stopped doing my own, I would go to cheap places and get it done. Once the people in the shop knew me, it became routine, and I felt I could trust them to be honest. With my Prius, it is such a scary car to me, that I just trust the Toyota people- if they break something- they'll fix it and no cost to me, and if they forget to put oil in, or the drain plug back in, then the liability is on them- PLUS they will have all records that show that I actually did maintain my vehicle, should there be any issues. I used to pay anywhere from $14.95 to $19.95 for oil changes, the Toyota dealer is $24.95- but that $5 is worth it to me. I put on so many miles, I wanna know that my car is getting all that it needs. Also, through a friend of mine that works as a sales manager there, I get parts 50% off, so when I do replace my own air filters, they are pretty cheap- so I guess it all evens out. I do agree that it would be nice to be able to watch them work, just like to see what they are doing, and I wish that they didn't take so freakin long to do an oil change!
