Argh where is the search box at this site?!... Anyhow looking for someone that knows how wide we can go with the 15 inch wheels. I'm tempted to try to mount 225s but might go with 215s. What ratio too? I wouldn't mind going taller but don't want to blaze any trails. (Will probably mount these with a manual hft changer so the height would help) Thanks
Uh...Wider tires on stock wheels? Keeping my reply simple: The stock tire size suck for driving/turning/braking a lot. Wider tires would be a simple improvement for all those situations.
You might opt for a rear sway bar and some Continental PureContact tires in the factory recommend size. I did both and significantly improved the handling. Stops much better in wet. Corners like a slot car (surprises people) and has much better road manners.
Rear anti roll bar is on the list thanks. Might box up the rear beam with some steel stock possibly instead. I will probably do star specs summer and ArticMax winters or maybe the sumitomo ultra high performance all seasons for winter. I have heard the continentals have all around good reviews but I'm partial to performance and cheap.

So following up, I went with 215/65/15 sumitomo high performance no seasons Still plenty of clearance probably could have thrown the 225s on. Car rides a little smoother, quiet ride, a little less feedback from the steering but at the benefit of more traction all a round and the damn abs not coming on as much. Accel takes a little more gas to reach the same speed as expected . Speedo is almost spot on with the GPS now (instead of the car spinning faster than it should) The new tires weighed in at a hefty 21lbs old clapped out, dry rotted Continentals, (factory size 195/65/15) weighed in at 16lbs. (Factory wheels 16 lbs)
Although after the fact, I will throw in my 2 cents worth. If your goal was to improve handling, Prius spec 17 inch wheels would have been a better option. They look nicer. But will ride a bit firmer than the stock 15s.
I take a certain tight corner, 8 months out of the year on 215/45R17 Michelin Pilots, the tire that came on the car, on the Toyota 17" rim. Except in winter, when I go through the same corner on 195/65R15 on Corolla steel rims. I take it at around the same speed, maybe 40 kmh max, not really pushing it in either case. But you can feel a bit of G-force, that it's pushing it a bit. The car feels about the same in both scenarios, the stability, lean whatever.

Stick to stock or go +1 or +2. Wider tires on stock wheels will cause the sidewalls to bulge and reduce stiffness. Will result in a better ride with reduced steering response. Bigger contact patch though.
I’ve had 215/45R-17 MICHELIN PREMIER A/S SL V-speed rated on after market 17X7 ENKEI PERFORMANCE J10 SML From Tirerack for the past 2 years and they’re fantastic wet and dry and pretty good in light snow as well. I’ve got ~60K miles on them now and, like day 1, it’s like I’m glued to the road. Very spirited driving, 130+ miles per day in my 2012 Gen3. Mileage isn’t great ~40MPG or so. But that’s mostly due to the high rate of speed and my lead foot. WOT is a way of life! iPhone ? Pro
