Where Are The Pumps in 2005 Prius?

    I saw the thread discussing WHAT the different pumps are in a 2005 Prius, but can anyone provide me with a diagram of where they are? I understand the engine water pump is on the passenger side of the engine, next to the serpentine belt pullies. I think the inverter coolant (ICE) pump and the coolant heat storage reservoir pump are near the driver's side headlamp assembly, near the coolant storage thermos, but I'm not sure where they are in relation to each other. I have no idea where the heater water pump is. I'm asking because after shutting the engine off I'm hearing a clicking sound from the fuse box in the engine compartment, and a cycling of some sort of motor or pump (seems to be near the firewall by the brake actuator, but I'm not positive). The fuse box will click once, then that motor or pump will sound like it's running for about 4 seconds, then it stops. This cycle continues about every 12 seconds for a couple of minutes after the engine is shut down, then it ceases. It starts up again when I start the car, and it goes on the entire time the car is running. So I'm trying to figure out what motor or pump I'm hearing and if there's anything wrong. I have no caution lights illuminated on the panel, and the car seems to be running fine otherwise, getting about 45 mpg out of an engine with 179k miles on it.

    nutzaboutbolts' videos are speciflcally about the Gen 3 so probably are not particularly useful for a Gen 2.

    Brakes pressurizing? There's a motor for that I believe, on second gen, similar to 3rd gen. Don't think it should be constantly running though?

    Yup, Mendel. Brakes are pressurizing fine. I hear the brake motor turning on when I press the pedal the first few times, then the brake motor only runs occasionally, and it sounds normal (WHEW!!$). This is a different sound, and in fact I can hear them simultaneously at times. And it seems to be coming from nearby the brake motor. I cancelled my diagnostic appointment at the dealer and am watching symptoms closely. I need to dig deeper into symptoms of coolant heat storage reservoir system problems. That's the only pump/motor I can think of that should be running after I shut the car off. I'm used to that pump running then, just not for so long a time, and not with the clicking sound from the fuse box. Thanks for the replies Mendel, Bisco, and Dolj. I'll check out that web site to see if it is helpful for a Gen 2 Prius.

    New symptoms: While driving, the red "BRAKE", amber "(!)", and amber "ABS" lights illuminated. The brakes still work, but anti-skid is inop; I can lock the brakes up easily when stopping quickly. So I then concluded it was probably a bad brake actuator assembly. Took it to the dealer, did not mention my suspicions, just told him the facts. Dealer said brake actuator assembly needs replaced. Total with parts/labor/tax is $2529. Another dealer estimated $2991 for the same job. I'm not in a position to research, order parts, and do the job myself, so I had the dealer press on with work. Ouch. Figures this happened just a month after the enhanced warranty for that part expired on my car.

    Parts prices are out of control. A lot of Prius owners (rightfully) stress about the hybrid battery replacement cost, but so many components have prices through-the-roof. And then, get a minor tap on the front or back "bumper": more thousands to repair.
