Good Day All. My Prius C was stored for 9 mos without out use and the battery is no longer holding a charge. I had it charged initially, immediately drove 500 miles (that same day) without incident. Once home, , it will not hold a charge. I'm assuming I'm going to need to replace the 12V.

I usually go to Toyota dealer so service/parts are done by the experts. I'm being quoted a Battery costs for 12V @ $225.00, with an installation fee of $125.00.

Is this reasonable? Is this something I may be able to save some cash and have done at Walmart or someplace similar?

Thanks, Good Day and appreciate input!

    welcome!
that is about the average dealer price. you should be able to do much better shopping around, although i'm not totally familiar with the c. call some other dealers and try some auto parts stores as well as walmart etc.
as long as it is the same spec, it doesn't matter what brand of battery.
    all the best!(y)

Welcome to Prius Chat Leslie and good luck with getting a new battery. Hope you can find a cheaper option like bisco suggests.

Thanks RCO! Appreciate having a forum to discuss/learn about my car. It difficult as women who has no knowledge on cars, to know who/where to trust for advice. Appreciate your time! Good Weekend!

You too, or would you rather I offered 'here's back at ya'? As a limey, I blame Hollywood et al for the bad American English slang. Maybe I just watch too much TV!

Hit up autozone or advance auto. The battery price may be around the same, but they offer free installation.

If the part is $225, so be it. But the $125 for install is a little bald.

Try feeding in your car stats on Pep Boy site, they may have a Bosch battery for around $140, with gratis install.

BTW, long term parking of the car, you should at the least disconnect the negative lead of the battery, or remove it completely, periodically charge, say every 3 months. When the car sits idle in the car long term, there is a constant drain on the battery, will kill it for sure, in a month at the most.

does the battery being under the rear seat make installation more costly?

If Autozone or Pep Boys still install for free, I would say no;).

But for the by the hour dealer, cost would be higher:(.

free would be great, but sometimes those places balk when they see it is a prius, and where the battery is.
i hope leslie gets back to us.

Egg came first. Dinosaurs had eggs and they came long before chickens. ;)

They are now, but that's evolution... at least per Jurassic Park. But the question was what came first the chicken or the egg? So a dinosaur laid the egg that evolved into a chicken. :D

When I was maybe 14 I worked for a bit at a chicken egg farm, very very basic, everything manual, including "waste removal". Was flipping through the Feb National Geographic last night, came across this image, an egg farm in China. Note the robot down the row, it's task is to find/remove dead birds.
