I have my steering wheel controls working with an Android head unit by splicing into the SW control wires in the radio harness R5. I didn't use a Metra Axxess ASWC interface because the Android HU has a learning function. All of the buttons work and their functions are assignable.

The head unit is a HuiFei-type 2-DIN, 1024x600 touch screen, CPU: RK3188. Mine is from CarJoying with a universal wiring harness. I like it!

My car is a standard 2008 Prius without NAV, JBL or auxillary input. The 3 connectors on the back of the stock radio have the following pinouts:
    Slide3.jpg Slide4.jpg Slide5.jpg

To use the steering wheel control buttons, connect Prius SW2 to Android KEY1 (pink), connect Prius SW1 to Android KEY2 (brown). I'm pretty sure KEY1 and KEY2 are interchangeable. The Prius R5/6-red GND must be connected to the GND (black) of the wiring harness for this to work.

Once connected, map the keys using the HU Settings > Steering wheel control settings. Once inside, tap the desired button on the screen, then push the corresponding steering wheel button. Repeat for each button.

I set the MODE steering wheel button to activate the HU's NAVI button, so I can switch between the navigation screen and the music screens.

Most of the wires nicely match the Metra 70-1761 harness. All of the power and speaker connections are straight forward. Dimming works fine without using Illum- from R4-pin5.

I grounded the HU's "BRAKE" wire. It functions to prevent movie playback while you drive and grounding it opens this function. If this is important you could look to pin16 of M13 on the back of the MFD for the parking brake signal. My harness doesn't have a wire there.

I removed the original radio, so I used the 68ohm resistor hack to keep the MFD happy. The resistor and instructions were included with the Metra 95-8240B dash mount kit. The resistor is attached between TX1+ (pin9-pink) and TX1- (pin10-white) of the R5 connector (from the MFD).

This would have been easier if I had a male 20-pin connector compatible with R5. I didn't know where to get one so I soldered some T-splices.

    Cheers!

Here is the head unit wiring diagram from the pdf-manual. Sorry, I don't have a better image of this one. The only wire I didn't connect is the orange BACK for the backup camera signal.

    Did you use the:

AX-TYAMP1 SWC AMP INTERFACE W SWC LEXUS TOYOTA 2002-2015?

I have the ASWC-1 (with resistor), will that work?

I didn't use either steering wheel interface. If you're using the android head unit like I did, no interface is required because you can program the head unit to respond to the keys - after everything is connected as above.

Does anybody have the steering wheel wiring diagram for the jbl nav prius? I just removed my android headunit from from my totaled 07 base model and I used this page to wire that one but the wires are different and want to install this one in my 08 touring.

I have the 10.1 joying universal.
After I installed it can't control anything from the steering wheel. Either the music valume or call and end call .also the main thing the odometer and display readings and the heat temperature going up or down. Do you think there is a way to get all the buttons on the steering wheels working well?

You are asking in a Gen 2 forum and your car is a Gen 3. Perhaps if you ask your question over in a Gen 3 forum, you may get folks with knowledge and experience with the Gen 3 who can help you out.

hey thanks i followed your last picture to wire up an android head unit.
steering wheel control, and restoring aircon and backup camera function.
in order to restore the original console screen, you gotta jump 9 and 10 with a resistor.
if you dont do this, the console will say you cant use aircon, and backup camera doesnt work.
mine didnt come with an 68ohm resistor, so when i went to the hardware store,
all i could find is some resistors bundled with a few small led sets, there were two choices,
300ohm 3-6v or 150ohm 4-7v, i decided on the 300 ohm, because it would allow less voltage.
alot of people were simply putting the resistor like a jumper, to preserve the original plug however,
i thought this was a little janky, so, i cut the wires off and connected them manually.
i tried splicing them together, no change.
i tested it and it worked, then i connected it properly, with but splicers, and covered the resistor with elec. tape.
original screen functions then worked normally.

    steer wheel control buttons.

my head unit i purchased didnt mention anything in the wiring diagram about steer controls,
so i did some additional google research, and found that, you only need to hook up 3 cables,
to allow it to function properly.
on the head unit i had some extra cables , key1, key2, and ground, were some of the extras.
i followed the 3rd picture diagram, you have there to figure out which cables to plug in.
i put sw2 to key2, and sw1 to key1, and ground to ground.
again, i cut these off the plug and connected them with butt connectors.
i turned it on. in my android box, i went to steer settings,
there was a button programming option thing.
I pressed each button, and it let me select its function.
mode, volume up/down, hang up, pick up, move right, and down.
the temp and ac buttons were not programmable because those, simply,
control the temp, and you can see changes on the original console screen.
    everything seemed to work great.

    one error
now when i turn on my unit, the box, has side led lights, for a few buttons,
they now blink on and off. i do not know why this is happening as it did not happen after initial, power test.
i tried to check for lose connections, but didnt find any.
im sure a good tech would say this is happening because something is "grounding out" somewhere,
but.. gosh, im not sure how to check, whats what for this problem.

extras - tv while driving in japan.
ive heard alot of talk regarding a kind of cable that you would splice in, and it removes,
the block, that would stop you from watching while you drive.
ive heard that this only applies to pioneer headsets.
mine was a pumpkin android 8core.
i didnt install any extra cables, for this, and, seems to work fine while driving,
    no extra mod.

for the tv stuff, i purchased a separate 100 dollar, car tv tuner, with 4 antennas, to place all around the car,
for power, it had a red power cable, and black ground only.
i plugged these into the other cables while installing, was very easy.
i placed all the antennas, and the rf module.
i scanned for channels, after putting in the bcast card.
tv came up, and i was able to watch while driving.
i connected to the head set via included rca jacks, however obviously hdmi would be better.
i do not believe my box had an hdmi in, which is obviously strange.
on the android box, i simply selected video input mode, and it showed the tuner box, and tv stuff.
i havent noticed and tv guide menu settings yet, but maybe its there, idk.
my box did have some kind of dvr thing, which would be cool if it actually could record, tv while im driving etc.
the box i got, has 1 seg, and full seg.
quality so far is average, but im still playing with the antennas etc.
generally was very easy to install.
on the Abox, there was a software setting to not show screen while driving, you could manually turn on or off...

    connecting phone video to box
i have an iphone, this is android.
apparently you need some kind of separate apple tv dongle in order to do screen mirroring.
this is quite frusterating, since i dont have one.
it would be nice, if i could just easily bluetooth stream videos from phone to, screen.

    gps
the unit came with some gps dongle,
and a wifi dongle, i drove to the conbini, and connected to the free wifi,
downloaded the area maps very quickly and easily, however..
when i tried to do actual navigation.. once i left the wifi zone, it basically, doesnt work.
i may need some kind of gps sim card perhaps...
this is interesting however.. because the native prius navi doesnt seem to require any gps card,
so.. i wonder how that all works..
    well that was my experience.
