My 2011 the yellow triangle came on and said replace hybrid battery. I just bought a brand new 12v one battery it reads 12.56 at the battery when hooked up. I cleared the codes and it still said replace hybrid battery. The car only has 82k on it. Any ideas? I’m getting P3190. The engine starts and runs and also shuts off lol me it normally does when driving. As soon as you let off the gas it stops running
Get the car scanned, and you start onwards from there. Without the scan for codes, you're just throwing parts at the car, which it would, gladly accept
If a P3190 code is displayed, 2 things worth checking: How much gas is in the car? The fuel pump Do you have Techstream to check on other codes? What is the hybrid battery state of charge? Keep us posted .
As Bisco says, you are under warranty on the hv battery. Get it to the dealer and they'll give you a new one
What was the resolution? Anytime I change out the 12v bat in the back the car runs funky and has error codes. I typically drive it 1/8th of a mile, turn it off and back on....then all is good.
There is a relearn procedure the car has to go through because you just erased it's memory. There are ways to keep this from happening though.
After replacing the battery I drove it a few miles and once I turned it off and back on it started running fine again. Haven’t had any problems again.
I am surprised to read this with so few miles on a newer Prius. Has this happened with other gen 3 owners? We are almost at 80k on her 2013. Should I be concerned?
Nope. Currently a tick under 176 k miles on our 2010 and it’s going strong. But I also do some preventative maintenance that may help. This is what I am in the middle of currently: Just checked and it’s at 239 volts, so about ready to start discharge cycle #1.
Thanks! that's interesting. Is there regular maintenance that one can do with the hybrid batteries? We do take it to the dealership. They have been most fair with pricing and I feel they are the experts in our area with hybrid vehicles.
What the picture is of is the Hybrid Automotive Prolong battery charger. This allows you to grid charge your hv battery pack. Pair that with their Intelligent Discharger and you can easily maintain your hybrid battery . I started this process when we were just outside of the 10/150 warranty (I hit mileage first). First top end balancing I did rejuvenated the pack and has been performing better with occasional preventative maintenance . You are near a Prius expert: @strawbrad . Hope that helps.
Is any of this done at the dealership for regular service intervals? I am not very savoy with batteries or maintaining the vehicle. Is there someone that can explain how to do this, with instruction?
It’s easy once the harness is installed . Here are some pictures, for reference. The harness that connects to the battery and allows either the charger or Intelligent Discharger to be connected: How to connect the harness and 120 volt power as well as turn the charger on: Similar for the Intelligent Discharger: There are more buttons on the Discharger, but all is explained on the Hybrid Automotive website . This includes instructions and pictures on how to install the harness . There is an installer map on there as well. I paid to have our harness installed and since it was @jeff652 , it was a good excuse to ask questions . Hope that helps.
