Hi all! I want to add fog lamps and better headlamps to my 2014 Plug-in. I discovered using Techstream that the indicator light and relay for the fog lamps already exist, and I have already received the front grille with the fog lamp cutouts. I want to know what other parts I will need before I remove the existing grille, if the wires / connectors are present behind the grille and the part number for the correct fog light assemblies I should order. As well, the stock headlamps don't put out much light, and I would like to upgrade them. Looking for any recommendations people have. Thanks!
Can't help you with the fog lights (I just ordered a set from the PriusChat Shop which came with all the harnesses and just installed plugged it in to the power and wired a button into the interior). But for high performance halogens, I've had good experiences with the Gen 2 from powerbulbs.com (they ship to the US). Just like any high performance halogen headlight, just keep in mind that they won't last as long as OEM (but they are noticeably brighter)
Replacing the stock H11 bulbs with H9 bulbs is your cheapest option. I installed an aftermarket HID in my stock projectors. I sold my PIP and now have a car with HID and true HID projectors. Fair to say that an aftermarket HID in a stock halogen projector sucks in comparison (no sharp cutoff, hotspots, poor light distribution), so that's why I now recommend the H9 option. Btw, you'll find that the fog lamps will do very little.
Yeah we have the stock fog lights on our 2010 Canadian Touring: you can hardly tell when they're on; they're just for looks.
I too have a 2014 PIP Base. Maybe its just me, but every time I start looking at all the bulb upgrades, I just get confused and give up.
Thanks everyone for the suggestions! I'm going to go the powerbulbs route. Will update this thread with my finished result!
Id very much like to add factory fog lights to my wife's pip. Let us know what you find out as to if the car is pre-wired and its just a matter of adapting the fog lights onto the car.
There would be some compromise: the light stalk doesn't have the foglight switch. Again, the stock fog lights are pretty much ornamental, not effective: I can barely tell the difference, on or off, with ours. Never use them
