Hi -- I just got my Prius today after only a six-week wait! Anyway, I was wondering if there is such a thing as a holster for the key fob to keep it from getting damaged, scratched, worn, etc.? We have holsters for cell phones to protect them, why not for a key fob? Also, I got the Smart Key system on my Prius and it only came with one fob, much to my surprise. I thought it would come with at least two fobs. I asked my salesman and he said the car only had one fob with it. Did I get rooked out a fob somehow? Any idea on how much a second fob would cost?
All brand new Priuses come with two fobs. Call and don't mention you've bought one, and ask a manager how many come with it. Then demand your other one. Sounds shady.
Since the fob is so small, I just carry it in my pocket all the time. If you're worried about it getting scratched, you might want to consider putting it inside something like a jewelry bag or some other small cloth bag.
Yup, you get two fobs with a new Prius. I bought a third one, but it's a hassle to get it programmed as you need the other two so they can all be programmed at the same time. Don't worry about the fob getting scratched; they're very sturdy. I agree, a belt holder would be a good idea. You can get a snap shackle and clip it to your belt loops, but you run the risk of having it fall off or get pulled off going through a doorway or in a crowd. I keep mine on a cord, one end of which is clipped to my belt and the fob is in my pocket. Maybe Toyota will come up with some way of making it into a jewlery piece like a bracelet or necklace.

You absolutely are entitled to two key fobs......... He probably lost the other one, but he should replace it for you. Today, I actually left mine in my briefcase and put that in the trunk space prior to getting in the driver's seat... when I got in and pushed POWER, it said i didn't have the key... so there is apparently very limited distance for the fob to transmit, and the trunk is too far.... :-( oh well.... go get your Fob dude !! and congrats on your new Prius !!!!! ENJOY

I'm paranoid about losing my smartkey fob. It sounds like a real hassle to get a replacement and the best idea I've read so far is to order a non-smartkey fob and keep it with the battery taped to the outside in the trunk well hidden somewhere, then have the regular door key in a safe place on the outside of the car (like one of those old fashioned magnetic boxes). However, I called three Toyota dealers to ask about ordering one and I got three widely divergent prices ranging from $57 (when I got to the dealer they told me that was a mistake) to $295, plus anywhere from $95 to $195 to program it. I'm thinking of having my original smartkey fob sewn into a pouch under my abdominal skin. Any advice from those who have gotten replacements? There is one alternate vendor I found on line (it still needs to be programmed by a dealer) but it sells for $189.99. Anybody deal with them?

Have you looked in all the nooks and crannies? When they set up the car before sale they put loose items, like a FOB, in one of the compartments for safe keeping. Leave your Fob on the kitchen table well away from the car and see if you can start it. If you can the spare FOB is somewhere in the car.

yes there was... while i wasn't the original poster to that thread, it has happepend to my fob as well... lets just say the keys are much better made than cell phones!
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Orf @ Jul 21 2006, 03:17 AM) </div> Even easier...try to lock the car. It won't lock with a powered fob inside.
I never washed the Prius fob, but I got one wet in the rain that belonged to the alarm system on my other vehicle, and the results were not pretty, and highly embarrassing when that thing kept going off while I tried to find the valet mode button. Can't recommend letting one get into the washer...;..

I now have a Remote Tote, a high quality leather cover with a steel grommit and keyring connection, you need a large size(1 1/2"x2"x3/4"). It cost about $6.95 and I highly recommed it. It is a tight fit going on but it fits like a glove! bernzx

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Rufaro @ Jul 24 2006, 04:34 PM) </div> Cool! I wish I had these for my old Corolla remotes... which I had to repair with super glue to fix the part that connects to the key chain.
I love the FOB, but I wish Toyota would have made an ignition key to bypass the FOB. Imagine traveling two hundred miles or so away from your home and loosing or damaging your FOB ... What now! No locksmith or Toyota dealer can help you get the car started. Opening the car is not an issue the problem is starting the car, if you did not have your spare FOB with you, you would need to have someone drive it to you or send it via overnight express. Since you can not leave a working FOB inside the car, I have taken my spare FOB apart and removed the battery, I carry the FOB, battery and small screwdriver in a small zip-lock bag hidden in the car. I also made a spare door key and have it hidden under the vehicle. If I ever loose or damage my FOB all I would have to do is remember where I put everything, but that is a different story I purchased the pouch mentioned above about a year ago, they are great but are a little on the tight side. The owner of the company told me that if you request it to be a little wider, they can do this at no extra charge, maybe by now, she has done this as a standard, because I have refered a lot of people to them. I also purchased a small belt case at Fry's, it looks like a camera case but much smaller, the FOB never leaves my waist. One last thing I always tell my children ... LABEL IT! I am responsible for lost and found at my place of employment, everything you can think of comes to me as a lost item, if I see a name (first only) and a phone number (cell recommended) I will call the individual and have the item returned.
