Hello all! I bought these a while back on this forum and decided to go a different route. This is a pair of OEM headlights, for a 3rd Gen. They have been modified by being opened up, painted gray, and had the ugly reflectors removed. They could definitely be buffed or whatever the process is to get rid of the cloudiness, but all tabs are good. The driver side has a crack... it doesn't compromise it in any way, but it is there. I'm asking 100 obo. I'm in N. San Diego, specifically Oceanside. I prefer to sell locally and not deal with shipping. Let me know if you are interested or have any questions. Thanks! Are you sure the cloudiness is on the outside, and not from the paint curing onto the inside surface after the lens was sealed onto the housing with incompletely cured paint? Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
I'm pretty sure the cloudiness is the same that cars get when their headlights get foggy, which can be cleared up with one of those kits from Wal-Mart or a service at a car wash. I am selling locally in SoCal so the buyer can see them before buying. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
I think the lights would look more appealing and presentable if they were cleaned. Just use rubbing compound, no need for fancy headlight restoration kits. Then people can see if the haziness is from the inside of the outside.
Sorry but I don't think these are worth 10 cents. The cloudiness is no doubt due to paint fumes deposited on the inside......and impossible to remove. The reflectors removed may SERIOUSLY impair the proper light distribution even more than the cloudiness. No wonder he decided to "go a different way".
Wow Sam Spade... you're a hero. Not worth 10 cents to you and not worth 10 cents are two completely different things. I'm glad you're an expert on the effects of paint fumes on the inside of headlight housings. You're also quite the specialist on how removing a part of the headlight housing that is 100% behind the projector will SERIOUSLY impair light distribution. I'm no expert, but I don't think the absence of an orange reflector in the back side corner of these housings will have any effect on the headlight distribution. I don't recall you and I having a conversation in which I told you that this is the reason I am going a different direction, so you stating that is again merely your opinion that you are misrepresenting as a fact. Point being... this is posted in a for sale section of the forum. These are not new and have been modified, all of which is stated in the original post. Suggestions like those from Raja are welcome, but offering incorrect "factual" information on why a seller is selling and pointing out all the reasons you know a product is not worth 10 cents is merely your opinion that you are welcome to have and should simply keep to yourself. If someone else has a use for them, maybe to put into their car as is, or maybe to use for a headlight mod project when they don't want to alter their stock headlights, that is entirely possible and two reasons your comment that "you don't think they are worth 10 cents" simply means they aren't worth that to you. Also notice that I said I'm flexible and if anyone has any interest they are welcome to make me an offer. Have a nice day. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
Yeah sorry I agree with everyone else. These look pretty bad. Just clean them as someone else suggested.
No heroics involved here. This is an OPEN forum. I am free to express my considered opinion......which is what I did. You don't have to like it. P.S. While you think that crack isn't important, it might let moisture inside already.......and the vibrations of normal vehicle operation will very like make the crack worse over time. I take back my 10 cent bid; make it 5.
Well Sam, I unfortunately need to inform you that the headlights sold for full price, so I won't be interested in accepting your nickel bid. Thanks for your interest though. Now here's my two cents (which is only a little less valuable than your nickel): Prius Chat is a great place, an open forum where good people are there for each other. When someone is looking for advice, members are there to give it. Most of the time people are respectful, sometimes people are not. The for sale section is a little different, as people may be listing items for sale and not asking for any negative input. Even more important to note, while negative feedback may be given on a classified ad, when the OP steps in and specifically asks for no more negative input to be provided... and then some 67 year old man decides he needs to be an nice person and chime in with more negativity about the item, well... that's just plain rude. Anyway, if that's your thing, I won't let it bother me. I would just encourage you to continue taking part in this great open forum and providing input when anyone asks, but don't try to get in the way of an honest seller who gives an honest description of an item they are selling. Anyways, these are sold and I wanted to update this post with that status change. Thanks all, including you, Sam Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
You don't always get what you want. And the more years on your clock, the more wisdom you usually have.
