I have already signed up for a plan through Troy. I wonder what this will do to his prices? Troy?

I ordered mine today through him. I asked, and he said this is just the new MSRP for customers. Toyota isn't charging the dealers any more: they're just charging the buyers extra. Don't you love greed?

Troy's price stayed the same.

Howdy All:

We just got our Prius on Friday, July 14. Averaging about 500 miles per tank for the first tank. Considering our area is quite hilly, this is amazing.

We were quoted $1,950 by our dealer for the 100K extended warranty. We declined, having read about the warranty available via this site. I was astonished at the price -- I guess that our dealer was quoting something in line with what Toyota USA wants them to quote.

I have my second prius (both '06 #3) coming in friday. My dealer doesn't even do the toyota extended. He does cover drive train for 7yrs 100k for free, but if I move out of area may not be worth transporting (especially as good chance he would try to weasel out some how anyway). If wanted his non toyota platinium (same as my credit unions') they want $1900 for 7/100/$0  .

I did have CU add theirs on prius #1 ($900 same coverage and underwriter as dealer), but thinking I'll skip extended warrantee and go with troy on #2 after I get my tax credit in Feb-Mar 07. I only dealt with it at the dealer as otherwise out of pocket expense, not financed!

My dealer does have a "nice" tire road hazard coverage for only $20/month! <_<

The good news is I never waste my money on extended warranty programs in the first place.

I bought a 6 year, 75,000 mile, $50 deductible warranty from my dealer for $2,350!!!!!! (This was at 10:30 at night after a long day and I hadn't gone in even expecting to buy a car. I just lucked out on one being there.) I had no idea what the warranty should cost and trusted them. That's $1,000 over the newly raised MSRP. How gullible is that?

I spent the next two weeks getting my money back. Troy made me smile again. :D

Gotta run now and check out this bridge that's for sale........

I emailed Troy to inquire about the purchase of an extended warranty for myself but he informed that he only sells the Toyota warranty, not the Fidelity warranty sold by Southeastern Toyotal LLC. Basically there are two types of extended warranties for the Prius and they are essentially the same, but if you live in the Southeast then you should buy the Fidelity warranty since it is the one all southeast dealers sell and the one they are familiar with handling.

Also how does Troy bypass the whole inspection process? All dealers, no matter the brand, are going to want to inspect the vehicle (priamarily if the car has over 10K) before selling a person an extended warranty if the warranty was not purchased when the vehicle was new. The inspection is mandatory for the dealer to perform. Otherwise if they sell a warranty to someone with a faulty CVT and not inspect it then the dealers price for the warranties will go up, basically as a penalty for being negligent from the manufacturer.

As I understand it, you can only purchase the extended warranty prior to the expiration of the standard manufacturer's warranty, regardless as to whether you buy from a dealer or through PriusChat.

Therefore, pre-existing conditions are irrelevent. Any pre-existing condition is already the responsibility of Toyota to fix, because the car is still under the standard warranty.

A valid question perhaps would be how does Troy know the car has less than 36000 miles on it?

Thank you for correcting me Marlin. That is a much better question. However, if I ran a dealership and sold an extended warranty to an individual (like the Priuschat member that was complaining about the check engine caused by an emissions sensor) without inspection and that individual did nothing to fix the problem since the light would go off regularly over the 36K existing warranty and then they brought it in with 45K on it now, presented their extended warranty documentation (bought from me with no inspection), and now the problem was so severe it was affecting other parts so I had to replace them. But the person says nothing about the problem ever happening because they do no want to get turned away and Toyota says we won't replace it because you failed to inspect the car at 10K when the problem was minor. Now the dealer must pay, because of negligence. This is the kind of stuff that could happen. Insurance companies, including Toyota's and Fidelity divisions, are just hoping to have a loophole so they do have to pay. More than likely you won't pay but the dealer will or someone will. What will this cost you, a lot of wasted time and a bottle of aspirin for something that you tried to save $400 on.

A what if but nothing I want to deal with.

After a lot of bargaining and costco discounts this is
what my dealer offered me with yesterday's purchase:
3year/36K JMA car care at $399
and 7year/100K/0 platinum extra care at $1895

How can this forum best help me? I know call Troy
could be an answer. I am looking for other genuine
options as well.

Thanks.

If - - you really want one of the lowest price options, check out:

You'll find the email address & phone number for Stephen Pease. Extended Warranty prices are NEGOTIABLE! You will be amazed.
Good luck,

I don't understand why you want "other genuine options." What makes the offer through Troy unsatisfactory?

<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Frank Phinney @ Jul 23 2006, 02:00 PM) </div>
Can he beat Troy's price? If not, I don't see a reason to not go with Troy. There are tens (if not hundreds) of reports on this site about people having great luck with Troy; about him being honest, and giving all of Priuschat members (and, I presume, any others that asked about it) a great price without having to go through "negotiating."

I know this was your first post here and you probably haven't looked around that much. In the first place, I don't know what JMA car care is. But you get a "free" 3year/36K warranty when you buy the car. The price you quote for the platinum care is about $900 more than Troy's Genuine Toyota-issued Warranty, the same one you would get from your dealer for $1895. It's your money. I'd rather keep my $900.

I recently purchased a Platinum extended warranty for my 2004 Pruis from Troy at Greenfield Toyota. I can positively verify that this is an official Toyota Warranty and that I am very happy with my experience.

Betelgeuse -

Troy does great things for Prius owners! He has saved them hundreds & hundreds of dollars!

However - - - If you don't call Stephen Pease (Finance manager), you'll never know!! I promise, you will be amazed. I think you will agree, one long distance call that saves you $90 is pretty nice? Later - I think you might feel that "negotiating" really isn't that painful -

Good luck -

Could anyone inform me as to what Troy's prices are? We purchased a prius with the platinum extended 7/75 for $1100, and we thought that was a good price....but apparently not! Thanks for the help :)
