The RAV4 is under pressure from the CRV and is losing in comparative tests so producing a new version with improvements and selling in mid 2018 would seem a smart move to me.

 

If you've never tried to get into the back of a Honda Crosstour, try it some time. I'd be willing to bet you'll be disappointed with this design (small doors so close to the rear wheel well). You'll likely not be able to get into the back seat without brushing your leg on the curved door jam area thus getting dirt on your clothes, and/or bumping your head on the roof. While I like the idea of a more compact SUV stance, if getting into the backseat exhibits the characteristics I just mentioned, this is a No-Go for me.

It applies across the whole "Me-Too ‘Blivet’ Chassis Shape Design...Can't Tell A SUV/CUV Make-Model Without OEM-Applied Badges-Logos" automobile industry.

I am a lifelong car aficionado who was blooded back in the 20th Century in a Jaguar XK 140 Roadster, and went on to pilot motor fuel-powered steeds like the Porsche 356, Jag XKE, BMW 2002, Mercedes SL & et al others, including a Family Woody Wagon in the middle, until evolving, here in the 21st Century, into "Getting My Route 66 Kicks" in Prius Hybrids. I understand your "Getting dirt on your clothes, and/or bumping your head on the roof" problem and consideration. My vintage bones no longer embrace, either stepping down to sports car-level or climbing up to SUV/CUV-level to enter the cockpit of my personal vehicle.

The, now, No-Longer-Offered-In-NA GEN I Prius v Wagon was this "Versatile & Vunderful Vee-Vehicle," which met my family's needs of being a fuel-sipping Family Limo, as well as a Cargo-Hauler. My floor-length evening gown wearing wife, and formally attired rear seat riding passengers appreciate not having their cloths dirtied-stained by wintertime road salt or mud when negotiating the rocker panel/door sill of my v(vee) upon ingress/egress.

It appears that Toyota in Toyota Town considers me, my taste, automotive needs & wants, and demographic, to be a marginal contributor to their profitability, and has chosen to "Write Me Off" here in North America. I will not be buying a hybrid RAV4 or Highlander. With a bit of luck, they will come out with a GEN II Prius v(vee) in MY2019 JIT (Just-In-Time) to facilitate me replacing my MY2012 Prius v Wagon.
