FYI: Ever since new I've kept a log of every fueling. So far, in 14+ months and 18,000+ miles, our Prius averages over 53.4 mpg. We live in Southern California and do mixed driving.

That's quite respectable. I'm at 52.9 at 45k miles, but I have to contend with winter and tanks dropping as low as the upper 30s on occasion. Right now I'm showing 62.7mpg 380 miles into a tank so 53LMPG is in my sights, but I know it'll probably only be temporary once fall and winter hit.
