And things went south from there...

EDIT: I skipped over a possibility on the German Wiki so for the first problem there might still be a solution...
Unedited message: There's no wire and no signal on this pin (this is the pic of the German Wiki, I am missing the red wire):

My actual plug: the pin is there, the signal isn't:

The camera I installed at least a year ago doesn't work either. Probably drowned by now (despite being 'watertight', second one I bought at the same time works like a charm, but I will have to open the bootlid doorcard when it's not raining to swap them out). And the microphone of the carkit stopped working and the mute signal (from carkit to headunit), that worked yesterday, also fails as of today.

So 4 different problems in at least 3 different electronic devices. Determination to finish this is at an all time low.

At this point after a long period of reading a long, I still face a pinout problem on my own MFD. In mine '06 prius the same MFD is fitted as on the picture show above.
Tried to install my rearview cam but I cannot find the pinout for these type's of MFD's.
Can please somebody explain to me how my camera can be connected to the MFD?

    Hello berkel!
As far as I understood, there is no easy way to turn on the rear cam video input from a basic Prius MFD (with number ending by 47080/47081). From what I've understood, the pinout available on this forum and generally on internet is not for this type of MFD.
I've seen a post with a guy who managed to connect a GPS to this MFD and hence enable external video input. However it looks like that data exchange is required with the MFD to turn on the video input (i.e. not only a simple 12V signal).
Thus, on my side, with a 2006 basic Prius (no NAV, no bluetooth, no MP3,...), I've replaced my original MFD 47081 by a better resolution MFD 47230. First the things displayed look nicer now and secondly this new MFD allows me to activate the rear camera video input easily just by connecting the reverse signal to it. Thus, I've installed my rear NTSC camera without difficulties.
Of course such replacement is not plug and play as some wire swapping is required to make it works. Nothing complicated and once done everything is working like a charm....

Hello guileukow! Could you please tell me the pinouts of the connectors and what mods you had to do to get the 47230 to replace the 47081? I bought a 47230 from eBay and it doesn't work for me. Maybe I can get it to work if I do the mods...? I don't have SATNAV or reversing camera (I have a 2005 Prius and am in the UK). Thanks in advance!

Guileukow, I am also interested in the pin-out changes you made. I have a 2005 with a 47081 MFD. I found a good 47230 MFD and the reverse camera off of a 2008
Prius in a salvage yard. I have the wiring harness from the rear hatchback door and I will run a cable along the path suggested in our user posts. I just need the pinout change on the back of the MFD or at the center connector behind the dash.

Hi Steven, I'm wondering if you still remember how did you connect the reverse cam on Prius? I have the same model as yours. I have camera cables pulled behind the screen but I don't know how to connect to MFD...I tried to connect to pin 21 but doesn't work...

Hi guys, sorry for the very late reply, I've totally missed out your post!
Unfortunately I've lost everything related to the wiring. Fortunately I've found in my computer a picture of the connector taken before swapping the wires. As I still have the car and the screen is still working great, I just have to take a new picture of the connector. I'll do that very soon...

Ok guys, here is my MFD connector before swapping:

And now this is how my connector looks like once some wires have been swapped to work with MFD 47230.

    Hello,
I am in need of your assistance. I would like to hookup the OEM backup camera to my MFD.

I have a 2008 Prius level 1 without sks, without nav.

I have the wiring harness that is supposed to connect into the rear hatch. I’ve done this but the mfd does not display any images. Do I need to do something else in order to have the OEM camera work?

    Hi DangNabbit,

Just to be sure: which kind of MFD do you have? I had to install a MFD 47230 to make the rear camera to work.

    Cheers

Press "Info", If you have a Type A, then it is the newer hi-res MFD and should be able to show the backup camera, if you have Type B, then it is the older, low-res model that was used in all non-nav 2004/2005 and base 2006-2009, and cannot show the backup camera without an expensive adapter (Type B uses RGB, not standard composite video).
Otherwise, if you remove the MFD, there is a label with the model number on the back.

Thanks. Looks like I have the basic type B version.

Bummer. Looks like oem camera mod is dead in its tracks

I got a hi-res 2006 MFD for $20 from a local Pick-N-Pull (they usually don't know the value of the MFD) and re-wired my 2004 plug to use it. I would guess that you would not need to re-wire (not sure, I'd have to see the wire colors in your plug) if you just found a 2006 - 2009 hi-res MFD. In a junkyard, if you see JBL audio, then the MFD should be hi-res (the MFD has the bluetooth receiver for the JBL radios.)

I snagged a high res MFD. I am hoping it works (both the actual MFD and the camera).

So now before I take everything apart, I need to run the reverse relay wire to the wire connector?

I have a 2008. Do the pre- 06 models only need that reverse wire?

You can check your existing MFD to see if the reverse signal is already run. Put the MFD in maintenance mode and go to signal check. Put the Prius in reverse and see if the signal changes. To check, see this post: Yet another rear camera question - Loom?. If the reverse signal stays at "OFF" when in reverse, then you need to find the reverse signal in the wiring block at the passenger side door post and run the wire up to the MFD. One member just put in a switch so they could turn on the camera.
Here is a good look at what the 2008 wires look like with the backup camera: Will 86110-47230 work instead of 86110-47081 in 2005 Base Model?.
Here is the wire swapping I had to do to put the hi-res 2006 MFD in my base 2004 (Look at the PWR & GND wires on yours to see if you need to swap any): Will 86110-47230 work instead of 86110-47081 in 2005 Base Model?

Dang, just for curiosity's sake, please report what part number is on the existing, 2008 lo-res MFD and the part number of your replacement MFD, with bonus points for a picture of your wires (or just confirm if the look like the wires in this post: Will 86110-47230 work instead of 86110-47081 in 2005 Base Model? )
    Thanks!
