the trunk actually looks like they designed it for purpose, and not an afterthought.
how much in ca, and what tax incentives are available?

Wish it was a hatchback. Would it be fair to say it's similar to the Volt? I wonder what the mpg is like when charge is exhausted? Still, a very good range, for typical around town driving. Did I say I wish it was a hatchback?

Oh: spare? Asking too much I bet. :(

i think it's around 50mpg. 350 mile range with a charge or something?
what do you mean, like a volt? i think it is larger.

Well, the range, the nature of the engine, being more of a supplement to the electric motor, vs the other way around.

    Yeah: "tire repair kit".

Fuel economy in liter/100 km in gas only mode is not bad, city/hwy/comb is: 5.3/5.9/5.6. Telling that city is lower number (better).

Dash looks a little quirky, but I guess they have to these days. No shifter?? Copious amounts of woodgrain.

i know. i think we're sol on ev's down the road. surprising any gen 4's have them at all.

otoh, at least you have a lot more room for one in the trunk vs prime hatch.

Yeah the volume of the trunk isn't much but the usable space is very good. See the review of the fuel cell version that I linked below. It has a smaller trunk than the PHEV version and it can still carry 4 small luggage. The PHEV should do better. There is a decent sized underfloor storage bin in the trunk.

It's $39,900 base, $43,900 Touring. Only 3 provinces offer incentives (no federal incentives) and it qualifies for the max incentive in each one (maybe that's why they chose that size ;) ). Ontario: it qualifies for $14,000. Quebec: $8,000 and B.C.: $5,000.

Yes but the trunk is a very usable size and shape and the pass-through is actually pretty good and on par with most sedans. It has a deep storage bin in the trunk.

Similar to Volt? Yes and no.

It doesn't stay in full EV and will fire up the engine if you mash the pedal but most reviews peg it at around 50-75% pedal travel before the engine fires up (and one even says, you have to push pass a detenté... who knows. I'll have to drive one to figure it out for myself or ask one of the owners here). It is significantly larger than the Volt. It is fully, a spacious 5-passenger midsize sedan and not a 4+1 compact hatch like the Volt. The materials are also very good. There's a Touring version in the showroom at a local dealership and I was able to check it out in person.

75km AER range. 547km total range. 5.6L/100km combined in hybrid mode.

seems like a pretty good deal, what percent of the population is in those 3 provinces?

BC, Ontario and Quebec probably has about 70-75% of Canada's population.

I just test drove it a few days ago and I have decided to get it. Previously I have considered the Chevy Volt, Hyundai Ioniq and the 2018 Nissan Leaf. I am a 1 car family and I was prepared to rent a gas car if and when I need to do a long trip but having a PHEV for now will be perfect until BEV gets up to 350-400km range and faster recharge rate hopefully in 5 years or so (I know the Bolt get that range but the Chevy dealer I went to told me all the 2018 Bolt is already spoken for in Canada so if you want 1, you have to wait for the 2019) Really don't understand how Chevy work as my understanding is they have tons of Bolt just sitting in the lots in US (and dealer is discounting them to move them) and yet they won't ship them to Canada or Europe.

As a matter of fact, I test drove the Volt just last weekend and didn't even know the Charity PHEV existed until I happen to see a youtube video on it (I only know about the FC and BEC version before).

One very obvious difference between the Volt and the Clarity is the size, the front seat of both are comfortable but the rear seat are in a completely different league. The Clarity just feel so roomy and it just looks good.

IMHO, I think Chevy need to re-think their pricing strategy for the Volt with the Clarity PHEV out now as the ONLY advantage they have is the AER is 10km more than the Clarity. The MSRP of the Volt is less than $1000 of the Clarity yet Clarity has so much more standard equipment comparing to the Volt especially all the 'Safety/Semi-autonomous' is optional which adds $1000s to the Volts price.

I also prefer the engine noise of the Clarity over the Volt (They did not charge the Volt so I have to test drive it in gas mode and the engine whine like crazy when I floor it) whereas the Clarity engine purrrr when I floor it.

For those that has not drive the Clarity yet, EV mode get the car up to 110km no problem and acceleration is very smooth. Love the ACC combine with LKAS, it drove for over 30 seconds before it 'reminds' me that I am suppose to be holding onto the steering wheel :)

The only thing I don't understand is why it doesn't have Blind-Spot monitoring and Rear Cross-Traffic Warning. I am guessing they think the right-hand camera and the switchable Wide/Normal-Angle rear camera is good enough to replace BSM and RCTW.

For anyone in Canada that are looking into the Clarity, you should get the Base model as the Touring only adds the following: Leather Seat, Leather Steering Wheel, XM-Radio, HD Radio and Build-in Navigation (Garmin GPS). They have REMOVED the power/memory seat in the Touring trim in Canada and they want $4000 premium on the Touring.

Oh I forgot to mention, someone in Toronto got the Clarity Base before Christmas and he got about 50km in -17C (2F) @ 100Km/h speed which I think is pretty decent number. You can check out his video in youtube

If you have any questions, just ask

Congrats on your Clarity and welcome to PriusChat!

Yeah I was surprised at the manual seat adjustment when I sat in one at the showroom. I was thinking in my head (I swear someone on PriusChat said there was a power driver's seat).

I agree, Chevy will have to adjust its pricing scheme for the Volt. Or it might not and just focus on the Bolt since rumours have it that the Volt won't continue for a 3rd generation and may evolve into something else or be replaced entirely with another class of vehicle with the Bolt taking its place in the compact car realm.

    Thanks Tideland Prius.

Yes, I read a report saying that Chevy might remove the Volt from their lineup by 2022, will see about that.

Also forgot to mention 1 strange thing I noticed when I did my 2nd test drive. The battery only has 5km range left but the gas tank is full and it shows 648km gas only range which is crazy as it's suppose to be around 475km or so. Not sure if there is a problem with the software as I also read a post from another forum that someone in the states has one that shows over 400 miles of range on the gas side

Perhaps the more lenient Japanese testing?

Our 2016 Prius was delivered with a 1,300km Distance-to-Empty (or Range) readout.

Of course it's never read anything close to that after the first tank.

There is a software problem with both the stated gas range readout (usually much too high) and the graphical depiction of the remaining electric miles (also too high). Enough owners have reported this to be a widespread, if not universal issue.

I’m not sure what Honda can or will do about it, but with something like my Tesla, they’d just download an over the air software update to fix it. Obviously that can’t be done with the Clarity, unless Honda offered such an update at the dealer. It seems like it should be an easy software fix.

It does have a regular gas gauge?

If you mean those old style mechanical gas gauge, no.
It has a battery gauge on the left and gas gauge on the right of the instrument console (both digital led display) in front of the driver. You can also display the numerical value of both battery & gas range either in the middle of the instrument console and/or the infotainment display. In my case, the gas gauge is full (led segment to the top) but the instrument console showed 650km range which is clearly wrong (battery has 5km range) as the stated battery+gas range is around 550km

Oh forgot to mention for the Canadian model, the base trim only has White and Grey color and the Touring trim adds the Red and Dark Green color whereas US has a lot more color to choose from

No, I'm fine with digital display gas gauge, my 2010 Prius is like that. It's got eight or ten divisions. I just can't get to excited about a supplemental indicator, rely on the gas gauge.

Yeah, I know: it's there, it should work.
