well were going to go on vacation and take the truck... tons of stuff to take to the beach. so with that I am saving money on gas on my work commute so i can afford to take the truck 380 miles each way... hah... almost a tank down and back.. way different than this car...

work commute - so in 1 week is 600 miles @ about $125... that is 600 x 1.5 so.... almost $200 in gas but barely over $50!!!

    ok so updates..
    1. stopped doin fuelly - tired of entering it all...
    2. had car for 1 year now
    3. put 30,325 miles on car
    4. bumped parking pillar - dented air dam/buckled grill
    5. basketball net fell over while my wife was driving... scraped hood/front end - $1650 damage (get fixed end of July)

so thoughts... I am averaging (so the car says as I have never reset trip B) 53mpg. Cant beat it.
    Ride is ok
Seats are still not that comfortable
Even my wife is driving it now and then when both are in the driveway

That's great! Figure a 5-6% loss from displayed mpg to actual calculated and your right around 50 even. Can't argue with those numbers :)

I came from a 2014 Charger RT Plus that was slightly modified and I was averaging 15-17mpg so I know all about crappy mpg lol. Am saving on average $75 a month now that gas is cheap(er), to over $100-$125+ a month when it was high and my commute is only 36 miles round trip.. I'd be saving lots more if my commute was longer. Oh and I have a Persona with the 17" handicap (3-6 mpg loss from the 15" wheels) but firmer ride and it handles better. My lifetime average thus far is right around 42.5-43 mpg calculated, 44.8 displayed and I'm at 8k miles. And I drive conservatively for the most part.

Well you know by now with over 30k miles on yours but,

-55 mph yields best result on the highway, not always safe though so 60 is your next best friend. Anything over 60 mpg goes down.. But still stays decent. I mostly do better on the highway as opposed to city, unless the traffic lights are spaced appropriately and allow for proper regen and gliding...

-pulse and glide when possible or at least anticipate lights and only brake when you must, always preferable to use regen if safe to.

-use Eco mode along with AC set to auto.

-oh and the fella that keeps mentioning a versa, it's the cheapest car in America for a reason. Lol. I'd pass. You can't idle a versa all day and night or longer on a couple gallons if needed (power outage, camping, etc) And you can't install an inverter to a versa thus making your car into a generator..

And a Prius c for a very long highway commute like you have would def. get worse mpg than a liftback, would be more uncomfortable and cramped, and you'd have had no trunk space for your sports equip! The wife and I actually looked at a c but we ended up getting her a v, and a good thing we did as she uses the whole truck space in the v, which is about 4 times bigger than the c.

The only other Type of veh. I'd recommend in the future if you keep that very long commute would be one of the new TDI Golfs. Check out my thread over in Alt. fuel forum. Wayne Gerdes Just got back from a round trip cross country drive with one and averaged 81 Mpg!!!

Oh and forgot to mention, tire pressure is very important if you want to optimize mpg!

Just reminded myself that I actually need to check mine, but I've been running 44f/42r on my personas low profiled tires.

For your three with the 15's (I used to own a 2013 three FYI) I'd try anything from 42f/40r, all the way up to max sidewall tp. See what feels right for you.

I was running 48f/46r on my old three with no issues at all... FYI.

Golf TDI.....great motors, crappy transmission and one would be lucky to make it to 100K miles without issues.

Good job! Enjoyed your story, kind of cool to keep the running journal like that. It is hard to beat these cars for commuting to/from work. Mine gets almost double what our Corolla got before it in terms of mpg.

Looks like the snorkel is out to good use:).

Our 2010’s brake pads still have at least 7 mm on the fronts and are original;).

They last a long time as long as you keep things lubed up(y).
