DUH! lol, i know that. but it makes disassembly a lot faster. i gots me somes torques wrenches and stuffs likes thats. lol. ok, i thought i went to far removing the fuse. but, eh. BFD on that one... so i will pull both end caps from the battery and i think i got it. I have a box with all the spare parts, and tools (10 and 12mm) to be able to do anything i need when i pickup the new unit. hopefully, i got it sorted out. but, they want the check before they order the battery. singing by tomorrow and hopefully will have this done Saturday.
You need to remove the fuse. Toyota supplies a new fuse. They may choose to require you to wear High Voltage gloves when handling. Ask ahead of time. As far as dismantling you will see that you only needed to remove the 3 bolts on the computer end and that section comes loose. We'll, I guess you also have to unhook a few other wires but you don't actually remove the electronics from the metal. They can stay attached and the metal end section is removed as an assembly. Be sure to use all. 6 of the new nuts that are supplied. Do not use the old ones. Same goes for the cabling. Notice the the placement of the foam inserts on the computer end of the modules. You will be supplied new ones that you'll need to attach. Also they have different size openings. Be sure to place them correctly.
Thanks @ericbecky. I did just peak at it again, and the ecu and relay holder is welded to the battery tray and lefthand vertical. The parts catalog seems to reflect the same. This is a gen 1. Is it possible you are mistaken, or do I need to look harder. I do not want to tilt these leaky batteries at all, so until I get spare hands to move it out of my minivan again, I can't really check.
I bet that's the Prius I saw half way up to Engineer Pass above Ouray. True story and very BIG rocks along the way.
As I understand, it died in the city with a failed to start code. But I will ask if it was there. When did you see this?
It was July 15th on the very rough Mineral Creek trail. The trail starts just above Ouray off of Highway 550 and heads up to Engineer Pass, etc. It was raining cats and dogs, but the Prius was about 1/3rd of the way up to the restrooms. I have 14" of clearance on my 4Runner and have to be very careful not to scrape. No clue how a Prius made it that far. It's not the first we've seen up there. I can't dream of what the underside would look like. The damage on yours was probably not enough to be it.
This car was running until sometime in December. It has service records for an out change on the 25th of Nov. I think the damage was after the oil change. The invoice noted leaks, but not dents.
As to determining what parts constitute a "core", won't that become obvious when the replacement shows up? The core is all the bits you replaced.
D-oh! My mistake. I did not look closely enough to pay attention that it was a Gen 1! Not the first time I have been wrong. Not the last either!
I would like to have it ready at arrival. I don't want to have to give them an extra $1400 for the weekend. I have partying to do too!
Battery is in! Car is running. I do have a code though. I broke a thermistor. the last one on the air intake. I had installed the harness, went to move the battery from that end, and heard SNAP. SHIT! Good news, it can be resoldered without removing the pack. bad news, anyone got a spare thermistor?
