The previous auto I owned 2004 Lancer was rear-ended on a perfectly fine, clear, and hot day in Minnesota. I'm kind of leary of some that are behind me.

With this addition. I hope that they can clearly see my "rear" end. And, hopefully, I will not be rear ended with this car. The repairs actually are not overly expensive in these cases. Still, it is a hassle to get your car fixed.

I don't know if it is legal? I guess that I'll just have to find out.

    Have a nice week. guys/girls

I'm guessing it would vary by state. Seems like a state issue to me. I don't see the problem in it, other than it looks kinda funky and the guy who drives it must be like 84 years old.

I hate to say this, but unless you are absolutly certain that the person who last rear ended you did so because they didn't see you, I have my doubts that this strip will do much to prevent such an occurance in the future. I also have doubts that it is illegal in any way. The rear of semi-trailers are usually plastered with this type of tapeing on the "crash guard" that hangs below the rear doors.

Most of the time, if you get rear ended, the person behind you was doing a combination of things that were not related to driving: following too close, not paying attention, speeding, talking on cell phone, eating, drinking, disciplining kids in back seat of minivan or car (but usually minivan) playing with hair, picking nose while staring into sun visor mirror, the list goes on and on. The only time I can feel sorry for the person rear ending you is if you come to a very abrupt stop and no matter how fast they react or how much they were paying attention, they cannot get their car to slow down fast enough.

I sincerely hope you are not rear ended in this vehicle.

I have to agree with Jerome; the strip would seem to be totally ineffective in all but the rarest cases.

    - The car's rear profile is a hundred times larger than the strip. If someone can't see the actual car, they simply aren't looking where they're going.

    - At night, your taillights and LED stoplight strip are certainly visible. The stripe-strip would only be lit the moment someone's headlights are about to hit your car.

    - People slam into road-worker trucks parked on the shoulder! These trucks, brightly painted, are far larger than your car. People still hit them, even when they have strobes and signs on the road.

So that strip won't make any difference. You could paint your entire car with black/yellow stripes and still someone can rear-end you.

But if it makes you feel better, it's your car...

If you never use your brakes, you’ll get better gas mileage and it is much harder to get rear-ended. :D :D :D

Probably useless; as has been said, anyone who can't see the entire rear end of the car won't stop for a piece of tape. You're cutting out a big part of your rear view and that's more likely to cause you grief.
What you need is a cell phone zapper so you can get the driver behind you to stop talking and DRIVE. I got rear ended by a lady on a cell phone about 6 years ago. Now, when someone driving while phoning pulls up behind me, I move over and let them go ahead of me. Your little strip might keep you from spotting someone on the phone behind you. You can bet that Mr/Ms cell phone isn't paying attention to your little black and gold strip!

Why would it be illegal? I had a similar sticker on my bike rack back in the 60's, and never had a problem with it. If you're that paranoid about being rear-ended, you might try one of the strobe-like brake light conversions that replace the 3rd stop light. City busses have them, and I saw one on a motorcycle today too. Anything that gets the other guy (gal) 's attention in a good thing.

You don't have to be stopped to be rear-ended. It happened to me in college. My 66 Mustang was rear-ended by a full size Ford taxi at about 40 mph. Funny thing is that I drove my car home, the Taxi was towed. Watch your back!

I have headlight and break light flasher on my motorcycle and they both works wonders!
Everytime I even tap the break the break lights will flash 5 times. This really gets peoples attention. On a motorcycle this is important as my stopping power is far greater then a cars.

On my bike I also have headlight flashers in the front. They pulse the headlight between full and daytime running lights. It never really become fully bright but having them pulseate draws peoples eyes to them. This is good since motorcycle can be hard to see some times. They automatically stops doing this at night.

Both features are legal in all states for motorcycles. Not sure for cars, but I would look into it.

By the way I don't think the strip does anything (more then get people to try to figure out what political statement you are making). Flashing break lights would work as they would draw attention to your car and make the driver behind you stop talking on his cellphone in his hummer for atleast a 2nd.
