Brokaw Warms to His Latest Topic Tom to Gas-Guzzling Whiners: Serves You Right 7/12/2006 Gail Shister, Philadelphia Inquirer http://www.jsonline.com/story/index.aspx?id=464935 Excerpt: "The former NBC anchor, proud owner of a 44-mile-per-gallon Prius hybrid, has no sympathy for monster-car owners who complain at the pump. 'I love it when they have to pay a hundred dollars for a fill-up,' says Brokaw, host of Discovery Channel's 'Global Warming: What You Need to Know.' 'I want to pat them on the back and say, 'How does it feel now?'"
Way to go Tom! More people of his and Al Gore's stature need to spread the word that so few seem to hear. The better off we all are if big names make a statement. It's all well and good when a small community of people embrace environmental change, but when a recognized and respected person speaks up, it WILL force the naysayers to think twice. Cheers, Curt.

Prius owner since 2005, HCH since 2004, GEO Metro guy since 1989, ad nauseum. I love how the limosine crowd 'discovers' fuel economy and are 'lauded' as visionaries, whilst we great unworthy practice this for 40 plus years and are expected to bow down to the likes of Brokow and Gore...
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(wstander @ Jul 15 2006, 04:35 PM) </div> This "Dog in the Manger" kind of thinking is not helpful - we need everyone, from all political & economic backgrounds to come together on this.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(triphop @ Jul 15 2006, 06:26 PM) </div> Oh, but Brokaw and Gore are portrayed as if THEY are the harbingers of reality... woof, woof
My temptation would be to thank the SUV owner for his willingness to make such financial sacrifices to keep big oil in business for my twice monthly visit.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(finman @ Jul 15 2006, 09:52 AM) </div> Just an FYI: In some circles, even including Prius owners, Al Gore and Tom Brokaw don't have much "stature". If you want the Prius and environmental changes to be embraced by the masses, a more politically neutral spokesman is necessary.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Sid @ Jul 20 2006, 05:59 AM) </div> Actually, I have a bit of respect for Tom Brokaw. He is a liberal, but he's not really a blowhard. His books on the Greatest Generation are wonderful, and his commencement address to the 2006 class at Stanford was pretty inspiring ... I review it at my blog at http://frankhagan.com/blog/category/politics/ with some pretty surprising quotes. He's still a liberal, with his admonitions to be "ever watchful" about freedoms and liberty, but he isn't given to hyperbole and irrational hatred like so many of the Howard Dean ilk.
