I'm looking to buy a used prius but with a limited budget around 2K since I'm a student. Please let me know if you're selling one. Thanks
For a budget of around 2K you should be looking at a good used car such as a Corolla. A Prius in that price range would likely need some very expensive repairs. @bisco is in the Boston area. I am sure he would agree that looking for a used Prius with only a $2K budget is a bad idea.
As an example of what ProdigyPlace just said, please look at this thread: FOR SALE: 2007 Prius, Sacramento, CA (NEEDS TRACTION BATTERY) | PriusChat A 200,000 mile Prius with a dead traction battery sold quickly at $2500. If you need a $2000 car, Prius is not for you. Edit: a quick look at the Nashua Craigslist shows all manner of interesting Toyotas and Scions in your price range. None of them are Prius.
welcome! to be honest, anything you buy for 2k is going to be costly in maintenance imo. have you looked around yet?
my daughters '08 with 100k is still worth $5,500., can't imagine what you will find for two. tough situation, no possibility of public transportation?
I'm in the Boston market and I thought my experience might help illustrate local pricing. After casually watching the price of Prius for a couple of months I bought a well maintained '05 Prius with 250k miles from my cousin for very short money for my son. Then I spent about $500 on parts for repairs I did myself, $400 on a new set of tires and another couple of hundred on misc repairs that I couldn't do myself (brake bleed and alignment). I like the car and think I got a very good deal. Gen 1 Prius cars seem to be the only ones available around here for less than $3k and they don't appear to be very well regarded by the Prius experts. However without the DIY I'd be into it for $3k easy. That's for a 12 year old car with very high mileage in the Boston area. I'd go with a $1,000 to $1,500 Corolla and bank the rest for repairs. If you can manage it I'd also look at learning how to DIY. Penny saved is a penny earned etc.
