Tire recommendation: Quiet please.

The Bridgestone tires are loud. There have been mention from others that when they went to a different tire it got quieter. Also, a softer ride with some different tires.

 

A typical characteristic of low rolling resistance (LRR) tires is noise. You can change to non LRR tires but you'd lose fuel economy. I can say, the Bridgestone Ecopia EP20 that came stock on my Prius are noticeably quieter than other LRR tires that I have encountered but still a notch louder than even the cheapest non LRR tires.

I replaced the original Yokohama Avid S33's on my 2010 liftback with Goodyear Assurance Fuel Max tires. First thing I noticed was much quieter and softer ride with the Goodyears. Wet or smow traction is also much better. When new, the Goodyears has about a 2 mpg drop, but the mpg's have gone back up as the tires break in (25,000 miles as of now)

The best thing to note about getting new tires is to know what you want and whats ot there. We strongly recommend using tirerack.com to research the tires you want for your budget. They offer a wide assortment from competition down to cheap and dirty tires. Once you pick the catagory - and they list them to choose - decide what you want, check the prices, and especially buyer reviews. Then go with your choice. Remember, while tirerack offers those tires so do competitors and sometimes their competitor has less cost. Discount tire is one that saves a few bucks by shiopping free.
And if you want to buy the tires locally shop your choice locally before purchasing.
So when you are ready to buy check the latest info and buy.
As for me I popped on some high performance tires that enable me to outcorner the minivans and leave them far behind. Yeah, only get 45 mpg but when it rains even vettes are at risk and boy do they wrench their steering wheels off. even a Prissy (prius c) is even up with a vette in tne rain. Driving is a competive sport even if its not in F! or NASCAR.

 

Just installed Coopers top of the line 80k tires. And for the first time I'm noticing noise so don't go Cooper

Yes, Michelins were dramatically quieter!

 

i love my Turanza EL400 tires especially in torrential rains. i read they had terrible reviews but for me the stock Bridgestone Turanza EL400 are GREAT. i run them now at 44psi all around (front & rear). they track beautifully and they skid predictably when pushed (low speed sudden braking). great and perfect for my little go-cart Prius c1.

 

Michelin... you get what you pay for.

 

We had Hankook H724 on our PruisC and they were EXCELLENT. Almost no road noise, excellent handling, super even tread wear, and they performed well in snowy conditions.

While getting ready for vacation we pulled into a Costco and replaced the tire with Costco's Michelin Touring AS tires. First thing i noticed was they was dramatically louder. They are not mud tire loud; but for a small touring tire, they are much louder than the Hankooks. If I had it to do over again, I would have went back to the Hankooks. For the price, they was a super nice tire.
