he was asking for a software solution. and he already mentioned in an earlier post in this thread about this particular solution.

he was basically looking for a cheaper software hack rather than shelling out the $300 or so for the video-in solution.

personally, I have an advanced with an 11" screen. maybe it's just because i'm getting older, but the *last* thing I need is another distraction in the Prius. have had it for a few months now and i'm finally getting to the point where my desire to fiddle has taken a back seat to my desire to stay in my travel lane.

Entune 3.0 will have a option for cloud-based maps with a trial period, but at the time of writing, the subscription cost was unknown. This is one of the projects Toyota Connected has been working on.

    ohh I see.

Entune 3.0 is based on Linux AFAIK. If he wants to try and write code for it and see if he can hack into it and create his own interface, I'm sure he's welcome to do so. Frankly, the $300 solution seems easier and doesn't require overwriting the original software.

Wish I knew the answer. It seems to be dependent on having Verizon connected car service. Right now, all that anyone knows about Entune 3.0 is that it's available on 2018 Camrys.

I would think that it's a bit of a pita for the prius for entune 3.0... they would have to make 2 versions of it (plus and premium/advanced). I don't know how their software is layered internally so it may or may not be a big deal, but it does add another layer of complexity over other vehicles. (assuming of course that they do decide to do both... might be they just upgrade the premium/advanced to 3.0 and leave plus owners out in the cold).

No. It's just refresh #2 but they took the opportunity to include TSS-P as standard equipment as well as upgrade the headunits to Entune 3.0. A brand new Sienna is still a year or two away.

You are telling me that there is no SDL, but you don't actually respond to my specific point regarding Mirrorlink.

My "Prime" has Mirrorlink. I have used it, with Sygic nav mirrored on my screen, and with the Touchscreen working too, controlling the Sygic app.

Why can't the same be done for Google's Android Auto app, and/or Google Maps/Drive?

See: MirrorLink - it says, amongst other things, "Any application can be made to work with MirrorLink".

This is primarily a US site and the US Prius family did not get Mirrorlink. That greatly reduces the number people here who are familiar with it and who could develop for it.

EDIT: From reading that link, the Android app has to be specifically developed to support MirrorLink.

since an app has to be written specifically for mirrorlink and google already has their own solution, I don't think there's any reason why google would want to convert their app to something else. it would defeat their purpose of pushing their own software.

now whether it's possible to hack the autoplay interface into something that can work with mirrorlink using an external application which would need to be able to redirect all the autoplay calls into itself and then feed them externally.. who knows, but I highly doubt it would doable, especially without some deep hacking and creation of a custom android kernel.

I called Toyota 800# today to asked about GUI in different language as it can't display MP3 metadata in CJK. I also asked about Entune 3.0 and Android Auto, unfortunately, the rep told me Toyota won't support either of those in the 2017 model. :(
