Hi. I just bought a 2017 Prime Plus. How can I get a graph or something on the screen that will always display how charged up the battery is? Also, when I was playing around trying to figure out all these screens, I did run across one that showed I only had 2 bars of battery. This is not surprising since when I tried pushing the EV button and the HV/EV button, both told me I could not use as the battery was too low. So, how can I tell how much the battery is charged? Shouldn't my battery be charging up more? I drive about 20 miles each way to and from work. On my old Prius, the battery was always pretty much charged up all the time from driving it. Will I ever be able to use the HV/EV mode? This car is complicated. Any suggestions/thoughts would be appreciated.
Welcome to Prius Chat. Others with more knowledge are sure to chime in, but what you are seeing on the display is probably the traction battery SOC (state of charge) shown on p212 of manual #6 on the left of the diagram. If you have not plugged in your vehicle and do not have enough battery charge to run EV, then showing only bottom two bar is perfectly normal for PRIME. Coming from regular Prius, this can be disconcerting. Yes, I was for the fist time I sow that SOC. When you fully charge the vehicle by plugging in with 120V charger cable that came with the car over night, it will be full. I promise.
As it’s new, the dealer, while prepping the car ran the traction battery down, why not go for a long ride and charge it up, once you do it will stay there.
welcome wren, and congratulations on your new prime! are you aware that you have to plug your car in to charge the ev portion of the battery? the screen you see with 2 bars on the battery will show you how many miles of estimated ev driving you have, after you have plugged in for awhile. there should be a charger cord (evse) in the back, below the hatch floor. and you need a dedicated 120v outlet to plug into. all the best!
Is there a possibility of using a 220volt outlet for such a system, seeing that some countries don't use 120V. Or are we saying there are primes that are also running on the 220volt plug?
in countries with 220v only, prime comes standard with that. in the u/s, you get a 120v evse with the car, and you can buy an aftermarket 240v evse. they are designated L1 and L2. (Level)
Welcome to the site. Sometimes it's tough when everything is new. I'd recommend watching some of the videos here from Toyota USA. They're really good and a pic is worth a lot of words. Good words, but lots of new stuff to learn. I watched all of these many times while waiting on mine to arrive. Take it one step at a time and pick something new to learn every day. Do read the manual. It's worth your time.
The car is definitely complicated. I agree with others on watching videos and reading the (massive) owner's manual. Fiddle through the menus when sitting still one day. It's best to be very familiar with it so you don't have any confusion while driving.
Thanks... I actually do not see anything like the photos abouve.. what is odd is that I now cannot seem to change the display screen at all. it is stuck on the screen that shows the climate settings. Selecting the back button does nothing.
Those screens appear to the right of the speedometer. The buttons on the right of the steering wheel changes what is displayed there.
I appreciate all of the information you have shared. I am a little stressed out at the moment as it appears there is a malfunction on my display and I have only had the car two day. Sorry if my response or other question was not to your satisfaction Bisco. This is perhaps not the best place for me to glean more info on what I should or should not be seeing in my car. Thank you all again.
Thanks Progidy. I had thought there was supposed to be a bar immediately to the right of the spedometer but I was not sure as there isn't one, at least not like I am seeing on the Toyota videos. And yesterday I was able to use the button on the right hand side of the steering wheel to change the middle display and today it is stuck on the climate control screen. Nothing happens when I press the back button. So new to the car that I am uncertain if it's a user error or something else is wrong.
