    The Gen 4 driver's seat is more comfortable than the Gen 2 was, for me. But most car seats are uncomfortable on long trips.

    Of course, you are correct. I should have been more clear and stated "a gas only hybrid that can't accept a charge from a plug" but that seemed overly wordy.
    I don't see gas only hybrids that can't accept a charge from a plug to get much beyond the market share they are at now. Perhaps 5%. It would be my guess that plug in vehicles will be responsible for 45% of the market when "electrified vehicles" reaches 50%

    Just one question, will Tesla make additional 10 milion EV per year to fill that Toyota bankrupt whole in the market, what about the other 60 million cars that are sold world wide? The world needs roughly 140 Tesla Gigafactories to meet the demand will they just pop out of the ground in 2030?

    I believe people will wan't to buy a capable EV, but I really doubt the supply will meet demand and if supply doesn't meet demand, EVs will just stay a little more on the expensive side.

    All thing considered 1 milion BEV per year (FCV will be in minority) and 4.5 HEV and PHEV is a good road map for Toyota considering their past statements and I believe (or hope) they will readjust those numbers in coming years.

    they need a good roadmap. if they used their own gps, they'd be lost.
    i suppose there are a few other companies who will help fill the void if toyota goes under. but don't take me too seriously, i'm just skeptical based on past performance.
    it's easy to talk about the future, especially the distant future, but toyota could easily have had a top bev on the road today, and a better phev, if they hadn't taken the bob lutz perspective.

    Lexus still believes that. They're not going to offer any PHEVs. It's hybrids or FCEVs.

    Actually there is a high % of peps who can't charge at home. Condo owners and apartment owners and apartment rentals.

    That's because home charging it really, really slow. 14 hours for a Prime!

    Well, if Toyota had put CHAdeMO in the u.s. version, like in Japan, charge speeds mighta been steped up quite a bit ... but that would have seriously contradicted their, "charging is only for peeps with 4 hours to waste" advertising.

    Yeah but the need isn't there. It's such a small battery and L2 charging takes care of most daily charging.

    Something like a Clarity or an Outlander PHEV with almost 2x the capacity of the Prime will benefit from CHAdeMO. (Although the Clarity's L2 charging time isn't that much longer than the Prime's)

    but chademo at decent speeds would probably hurt the battery. They only have it charge at 3.3 KW. It is not liquid cooled. Making it charge faster would cost more money. Charge fast and add dc fast charging? Might as well put in a bigger battery ;-)

    Yep amazing what designing it as a phev does. My guess is by 2027 liquid cooled battery costs will be around $100/kwh. Say profit margin needs to be 20%, then the difference in price to consumer of a 20 kwh pack versus a 8 kwh pack will be around $1500. It will weigh more (probably around 120lbs) which may increase rolling resistance. My guess is there will be a dedicated phev from toyota with a 15-40 kwh pack by then.

    This is a global goal. Hybrids already 20 to 30 percent of the Japanese market, and the only non-plug ins that can be sold in the future in China are hybrids.

    And when the term hybrid is used alone, like Toyota did, they are referring to the non-plug one.

    Many of these electric vehicle goals from manufacturers and governments rely on cars that don't have a plug.

    The multi-stage hybrid in that Lexus will likely end up in a truck at some point.

    40% of households in the US could make use of a BEV with the range of the current Leaf(Union of Concerned Scientists). 100% BEV adoption is a long shot here, but we don't have to reach that for them to have an impact on transportation emissions.

    Even if I got the 40% high, the number of people that can use a BEV is far higher than those that can use hydrogen to power a car.

    It is more about costs and requirement for the market.
    In Japan, residential electric is not plug in friendly; long charging time and L2 not possible. So most will be charging away from home, and most of the available chargers are CHAdeMO. Plus, they already have vehicle to home chargers that work with CHAdeMO plugs for providing emergency power.
    In the US, the majority buying plug ins can charge at home. Then gasoline is cheap for when away from home. CHAdeMO would increase the low price Toyota wanted, and as an option, likely too high for people to consider.
