    Hello all,

I have a 2004 Prius and I have the SRS airbag icon on the dash on.

Some of my steering wheel button controls are defunct. I also have B1801 code on!

Could anyone confirm, if this is a shorted spiral cable issue? I have replaced it last year.

    Thank you.
    Arya.

I think you might be having some problems with the spiral cables.
Open up the centre air bag stuff, and inspect the cables.

PS: You've got to be very careful, when working on airbag systems, because it could deploy dangerously at you.
So, follow all safety precautions when working on it. For instance, on Toyota vehicles, even the hybrid, you got to disconnect the 12volt battery, and allow the capacitor holding the charge for the airbag to discharge for say, 10minutes or so, before opening up the centre of the stuff in the steering.

Thank you! Is there a possibility that something else is screwed up? Like other sensors?

probably not, but it might be worth checking for trouble codes.

Some people have found that the cheaper third party cables do not work as well as the OEM one. That could explain a relatively early failure.

As regards the buttons not working, check the wirings on that button when you open up the pad at the centre of the steering wheel

Y not try taking out the airbag cable from the centre of the steering wheel, and replacing it with a new OEM one, or if you want it cheap, you could get some functional used ones from eBay, or junkyard?

But the problem might be you might have to be removing and replacing, until you get the right one

Very possible. Check fuses first, though.
