When fully open the rear hatch on the 2016 Prius is so high that my kids cannot reach it and it hits my garage door. Can the Stabilus LIFT-O-MAT Gas Springs be adjusted so they don't open so far, or is there a replacement with reduced travel?
You can install shorter struts, as in this thread: Hatchback hitting garage door solution! | PriusChat You need to measure the extended length and estimate the closed length of the oem struts. Then search for shorter struts with a similar lifting force.
Thank you for the quick reply. I followed the link to you garage door solution. The web site you mentioned seems to have been renamed. I have sent them the measurements and part numbers from the car and requested something 3/4 to 1 inch shorter. If I get a reply I will post it.
Was it this site? All Products Use the search tool and plug in the length and lift force, etc to find some comparable struts that are a little shorter than oem.
I was wondering if it’s possible to have a button to open/close the hatch?? My kids can’t reach either, but I LOVED the convenience of the button on my old car.
You already said your kids can't reach em. Have you tried comparing that height with other people using same car with yours? You could definitely replace the existing one with a more shorter one. As for the bottom controlled ones, I don't think there's any. Though I don't leave in the USA, might ne possible to get something that's controlled by a bottom in which you extend it to the desired height you want. Dxta
I've read on here of people who attached a strap of any sort to hatch so that it hand down when for is open. The length should me no more than enough for the short child to be able to reach easily, so that it can be tucked inside when the hatch is closed.
If you position the strap higher up the hatch, it still hangs down enough but doesn't need to be tucked in when closed.
