We've had people here on Priuschat replace the battery to find their Prius drinks less oil, so hopefully that is the case with you.

 

We got the car back yesterday from Toyota. They replaced something related to the fan, I'll ask my husband. We also went to test drive a Prime Advanced. I like how our 2007 drives better and everything about ours better (seriously).

But, Monday we are supposed to get a Prime Advanced so I can have a new car for my 122 mile commute.

 

Here's our car with 469,999 miles. The car has more miles from when the dash was out, at least a few thousand.

 

Our 07 Gen II eclipse 500K on July 3rd, 2017. The car was purchased brand new with two miles on the odometer. The only replacements have been the HVAC fan motor, the 12volt battery just under ten years old, and the combo meter had to be removed and refurbished just last month after going over 500K.

 

Ok, I'm finally joining to say goodbye 2005 Prius ): This car was amazing:
1) Drove it for 12 yrs 3 mths
2) Convinced 5 friends/colleagues to purchase different Prius models thru the years (they are still happy)
3) Did the maintenance myself: replaced muffler, replaced thermostat (electric valve) and of course Spark Plugs, PCV, filters and oil changes
4) ODO reached the limit (299,999 miles) and had Toyota HQ pay back ($750) for dealer charges to replace electronic dashboard.
5) Reached 443,958 miles (299k + 144k) and triangle of death showed up: HV battery issue

I was hoping to reach 500k miles in 18 months before a major problem happens but the cost to replace the battery is way above the value of the car.

This car is still running at maximum 45 MPH (on Gas engine only) but it's time to donate it to a non-profit organization.
I think it's also time for a 400k club !

 

Just take out the bad cells and replace them and drive it another 200K. You’re right! Amazing

Paul is right, that will get you going, but highly unlikely you will get another 200,000 miles.

agreed, spend the $50 on 2 new mods and in 3 hours the car will be good to go.. at auction it will only sell for a few bucks..

You're making me debate if I should take the battery apart and replace the damaged cells, or donate the car.

There is a 2009 at a dealer auction that has 440k showing on the odometer. Unfortunately I dont have any other info about the vehicle. If I can find more details I will share them.

 

Donate it to me! I feel like a piker with only 305K on my 2006, and my son needs a new car. He likes driving my '06 and we don't mind rebuilding traction batteries. I have done it twice and it's a piece of cake. Kidding aside, I'll give you cash money if you want.

On my silver pine mica 2006:
0. Added a trailer hitch.
1. Replaced 12V battery after 5 years (150K), still going strong.
2. Replaced HID headlights just within 38K warranty period, again at 72K, 105K, and on and on and on. Now i buy them on the Internet.
3. Replaced muffler when spot weld attaching heat shield to front pipe rusted thru in the high 100's.
4. Replaced both front wheel bearings at about 230K.
5. Traction battery died at about this time. Replaced it with rebuilt for $1500.
6. Replaced brakes, rotors, and drums myself, between 230K and 250K.
7. Replaced tie rod ends when alignment could not be done at 240K. They were seized to steering shafts.
8. Replaced my spark plugs at 250K. Installed the new "twin tips".
9. Rebuilt my traction battery myself when the rebuilt one failed 1 week after the 18-month warranty expired. Cost $60.
10. Replaced both rear springs and struts when one spring failed.
11. Bought a grid charger to extend the life (I hope) of my traction battery. I had to rebuild it a second time.
12. Bought a new Prius Prime. Fantastic car! But will not discard the '06. Just added it to my stable.

i own a Nov-2008 PII with paltry 50k miles... Works fine so far.

 

Odometer just reached 299,999 miles and now useless. Dealer indicated for just about $1,000 they would replace the odometer and only other option was to just live with it. Any suggestions?

My 2004 hit 299,999 this month. Second owner. Salsa Red paint job has issues. Original traction battery replaced with $500 battery from 2008 wreck couple years ago - still going strong. 49-51 mpg in warm weather. Self-leveling headlights a
pia. Love my dash mat.

Uses a quart of oil every 5,000 miles. Great car. Just put 4 new tires on it. Wish the odometer rolled over.

Inexpensive car to own. Cannot get away from the 50ish mpg.

 

I'm currently at 363,700 in my 2002 Prius. Replaced the main hybrid battery at 268K, and just now replaced the inverter (thank you, GreenTec Auto, for your fantastic refurb). Beyond that, it's still chugging along just fine, with a 48.3mpg average.

 

Dang. I hit 390,000 with my 2007 and all the warning lights came on. Diagnosed as needing trans and inverter - $2800 with refurbed parts. Car never gave a BIT of trouble (AMAZING) so I had confidently replaced the hybrid battery 6 months ago. Now, it feels like I'd be throwing good money after bad and it would be unreasonable to keep investing - though that car owes me NOTHING. Keep on trucking, fellow high mileage Prius chatters. It's the most amazing car for people with normal budgets ever made.

 

We DO need a 400K thread... my 2005 will hit 427K tomorrow! Don’t know if I can get it to 500K since I don’t drive the miles I used to but what a little beast mode car this thing is!
